Replacing Shifter Solenoid

Hey, my maxima's shifter will not shift out of park unless I override it by inserting a key or screwdriver or such into the override unlock button. So, I have recently replaced the brake switch assembly and that did not solve the problem as it still will not shift, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to replace the Shifter solenoid? As that is probably what needs to be done. I have searched and could not find a "how-to" or anything. Thanks

If your brake lights were working, a little logic would have told you that you didn't need to replace the brake light switch.

While it is possible that the solenoid is bad, there are other parts involved besides the brake light switch.

For example, there is another switch in with the shifter mechanism that operates when the shift lever is in park. There is also a relay involved.

Start at page 270 in the FSM and read about it. It may save you from buying an unnecessary part.

Well logic was used as I replaced the switch because the taillights started to work intermittently when I pressed the brake pedal, but after I replaced the switch that problem was resolved. The periodic timing of the taillights lighting up paired up with the car not shifting out of park made me think it was the brake switch. So that is why I did that.

But I'll check out the FSM, though.

Other than the possible FSM, does anyone have a DIY write-up for replacing the shifter solenoid?
