Question about intake

I dont know these cars but is it a bad idea if I ran my car with an open intake box? Just open with the filter still inside of course.. a friend opened it for me and i drove around and its loud as hell, put it back on afterwards. So is it bad? Can anything happen?

Just for a sound -_- id do a short ram if I really wanted the sound but I was just curious if there were any bad outcomes besides heat and less gas mileage

Without the cover you would get unfiltered air into the combustion chamber. The cover presses and locks the filter into place so 100% of the air getting into the engine will be filtered. Run without the cover and shorten the engine life considerably.

Anyways, after this I was running low on fuel.. had around 13 miles to empty and then the car had a sudden loss of power. I was in 2nd gear going around 40-50mph then it went to 4th gear by itself and lost power. I let off the gas when this happened and let the car roll for a minute but then pressing back on the throttle the car would respond by just slowing down, you'd feel a halting when pressing on gas like the engine was braking itself. Finally, the car stalled out when it came to a stop. I put more gas inside but the car would start for a second with a rough idle and shut right off.

Throw gas in the car, put back together the intake, check vacuum lines, MAF connection and start.

It seems it is something you did.

it was the outcome of something I did I'm figuring. I checked all the vacuum lines by the intake area, everything is all good but it just wont stay running :/

Ouch ^^ ... was it worth it? And how'd they go about charging YOU this amount?

This couldn't have been an irregular occurrence that was covered by anything? Doesn't seem right...

Im guessing though with a short ram the gas mileage decreases.. loss of low end power but gains while reaching higher engine speed (Im guessing this because of my reason starting this thread, I noticed much more power after 4k-ish RPM and gas mileage would increase but at a cruise I was getting less gas mileage and low end power. Speaking of intakes, does anyone have opinions for Purolator PureONE filter vs OEM? I was told by a Nissan tech "its not worth paying for an OEM air filter unless you are one of those people that just want OEM everything, for 14$ you get the same quality as OEM except the Purolator is blue with a mesh on the top side"... opinions?

funny my brain wasn't functioning 100% where it happened because state of panic, unplugging the MAF went through my mind very briefly..
