Best Exhaust For Higher Sound?

I know that most of you on here are looking for a very aggressive/throaty sound but I am looking for the exact opposite. How would I accomplish a sharper/higher sound that had less depth and volume....somewhat like an M3 etc? I'm looking for a sportier/tamed sound rather than the louder/unrestricted sound. Suggestions?

Yeah Borla is 2.25" except the ypipe at 2.5" I believe so realistically speaking you could just keep your stock and delete your resonator and it should give you a higher pitch.

The Borla sounds great and I don't think I would mind the Megan Racing one either after listening to M3 sound clips.

I was all for the Megan Racing with the titanium tips, thing is beautiful. I will however be going the custom route with an all out 3" exhaust. So we'll see

Hey Ross is this happening this summer? I'm very curious as too see what a custom and wider exhaust opening would sound like. I'd much rather tinker around with the in and outs rather than buying a full exhaust.

Yes sir. I'm going to an exhaust shop today to see if I would be able to run a true 3" Dual exhaust from my headers to the back, thus eliminating the use of my Racingline YPipe.

This project would consist of T409 Piping but T304 Resonators and Mufflers. We'll see what the shop can do for me

I think I'm actually going with the $581 setup since the first thing I'm doing is cutting the tips and adding the Porsche ones anyway. I love this sound though....

The guy that sent me this pic said you just cut the stock ones or in our case whichever ones we may have and they are an exact fit with no bumper modification needed!

Is an aftermarket Y Pipe required with the Megan system by the way? It looks like it comes with it's own?

Two different YPipes. The Racingline YPipe is attached to our headers and deleted out third cat but an exhaust YPipe connects to the resonator which is connected to the actual ypipe

Ahh that explains the funky shape of the Racingline Y pipe. It sounds like the Racingline one is a good first mod for the performance aspect and then adding Megan on later for the meaner sound to match. Thanks man!

You're welcome but tbh you might notice more from a catback than the YPipe but I sure didn't notice jack squat from the Racingline YPipe.

So maybe go for the Megan Racing setup and then the Y Pipe later on if I'm feeling it?

Exactly. It can't hurt and realistically you'll be going for te sound and look and you get neither from the Racingline YPipe.

What's up, boys? If the OP is looking for quieter and more tamed sound then I would recommend not cutting the resonator.

I did it, am happy with the sound from the outside (was looking for throatier/deeper sound -- opposite of what OP is going for) but am sometimes not happy with the sound inside the cabin at 2,500 RPMs or so and am now faced with either:

a) having to get a perforated core glass pack, not the louvered core glass pack which disrupts air flow, but don't know what that would cost me yet, or
b) dynamat the whole car like this
which would eliminate noise and rattles in the cabin (which some of those rattles and noises were there even with the stock setup) but I was quoted "at least $1k" from a very reputable shop in rhode island, so....

hope this helps

@ross - I see you're in ct and I'm in ri and thought i would be interested in a rl y-pipe but am now second guessing with your feedback; may have to go custom route as well

@ OP maxipad - good luck bro, your car looks sick man. I really like how it's coming along

Thank you brother for the info and props! That's what I was thinking as well on the resonator....I'm actually thinking of going with the Megan Racing setup since it has some volume when you jump on it but it's not too throaty rather aggressive. I've been listening to clips of M3s and the Megan Racing seems to be a great match.

To my understanding, the YPipe is great when coupled with an aftermarket exhaust because of how everything gets freed up
