How can I tell if the previous owner replaced the spark plugs?

I have only had my 98 Maxima a few months now and it is approching 80,000 miles. I have no maintenece records for the vehicle and for most of the unknown maintainence I figure 'better safe than sorry' and do it. But at over $50 for a set I would hate to replace good spark plugs.

I pulled one of the spark plugs to inspect it, but I really don't know what to look for. The end of the threaded area looks slightly burnt/carbon build up and the electrode seems to have some white residue on it, but I don't know if they would look like this after 20,000 miles.

On the white insulator they are marked --

+++++
PFR50
__11__

And the back -
NGK
__R__

On one of the faces of the Hex area is 'H789'

Are the markings on the factory installed ones any different then OEM ones you would get from a Nissan Dealer? If I don't get any info I will just replace them.

Mine were minty Jeff.

But how much carbon was on there? Did it look kinda burnt or anything? If it was looking kinda of dark the nI would say go for it if it is still a lighter color then give it some more time and consider doing it at a later time.

If I were you I would just bite the bullet and spend the $50. At least you will know that you will not have to change the plugs again until at least 140,000 miles on the odo. That $50 will give you some piece of mind.

That's what I was afraid of, I thought the markings on the factory installed ones might be different.
