P1402 EGR Valve
P1402 EGR Valve
About 3 weeks ago the Service Engine Soon light comes on. I check the code and came up with P1402, EGR function (open). I planned on taking off the EGR valve off, cleaning it and the small tube going to the intake. However, I do not have the proper wrench to get at and take off the large line from the exhaust. So, I cleaned the small tube and the temp sensor and shot some throttle body cleaner down the valve opening. I check voltage at the temp sensor and it good according to the book. Put it all back together and cleared the code. All was good until yesterday when the code came back. I want to take off the valve and clean it up proper. What need to know is, what size is the large line from the exhaust and what is the best style of wrench will fit in there? Although it seems good, should I replace the temp sensor?
I'd like thank everyone for all the help, Not.
If anyone would like to know, the size of the large line at the rear of the EGR valve is 30mm. I found a wrench that worked on the line at Harbor Freight. See pic. So I got the valve off and it looked fine. Cleaned it anyway. I checked the resistance on the motor, all four coils have the same resistance so I assume it's good. I checked the resistance on the temp sensor and watched the resistance go down when I held the sensor end between my fingers. So I assume it's good as well. I didn't find and evidence of the cat braking up and getting caught up in the valve. So I cleaned the tube and the temp sensor and cleared the code. If the code comes back, I'm going to change the temp sensor even though it seems good.
