Yesterday I was driving around and something fell and brushed against my leg. Luckily, it wasn't a crazed rodent but the little plastic fuse access door above the hood release. It fit back into place but it's very loose and will likely fall off again. Any ideas how to get it to snap in place securely? And no, I don't want to do a "Red Green" fix using duct tape if I can avoid it!

 

Since it is a molded piece of plastic, there isn't anything to adjust. Either a piece of the cover broke off or a piece of the dash opening broke.

You will have to identify what happened and then get creative.

 

A JY might have a replacement for cheap if its broken.

 

I just inspected the cover and nothing is broken. The opening is OK too, nothing broken there. Wish there was some way to tighten it up.

They fall out all the time on bumps, the car is 20 years old And its plastic, c'mon...

 

 

The same door on my 96 Quest never fell off...

 

Just bend the tabs so it latches against the trim surround better.

 

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of, but with my luck that 19-year old plastic would just crack. I'm thinking about applying some RTV silicone on the bottom edge of the opening and letting it cure.

 

mine fell off 7 years ago, been in the trunk ever since.

 

if you get a thin rag and put it over the panel and shut it, it should stay shut. There are countless ways to go about fabing something so small like up, this post is really silly haha

 

use a heat gun to bend the tabs some to make it fit tight.

 

I did just that and it seems to fit much better. We just happened to have a heat gun at work. Thank you for the excellent suggestion!

 

There are these little metal clips that go over the plastic tabs that lock it in place. Look on your carpet or around the fuse door area for them.

 

No metal clips to be found, the plastic tabs are bare. The fuse panel door on our '95 Altima is the same, but it latches on the bottom.
