whistling noise when accelerating
whistling noise when accelerating
hey guys,
i have a 99 infiniti i30, and figured i'd ask in the maxima forum since it's correct generation.
the car started making a whistling noise few days ago, whenever it goes around 2000 rpm or more. to me it sounds like it's coming from the rear passenger side.
the noise disappears when i take my foot off the throttle, or when the gear shifts up and rpm goes down; then comes back around 2000 rpm again.
the noise is there when idling as well, after 3500 rpm or so.
currently the check engine light gives oxygen sensor code, and the alternator overcharges the battery. but i don't suppose either of these are causing the noise? especially since this is a new symptom.
a mechanic said it's clogged catalytic converter, but i don't buy that because the car drives just fine and there is no loss in performance.
any help is appreciated!

I have the same issue in my nissan maxima.
First you need to find where is that sound coming from.
My problem was not an exhaust.
There is some thing inside of air conditioner compressor. This small metal part is always turning when you drive your car.İ thing you never change your compressor. This is the first reason it is possible.
second reason check for alternator and crank shaft pulley.
The question is engine or exhaust ?

okay for me your problem it seems like exhaust system.
İf it is wheel bearing the sound needs to come everysecond.
I dont think it is brake caliper or struts too, you are pressing the gas pedal. And the road is good condition.
catalytic converter or the others check all exhaust system
make sure car can breathe easy. Clean the Egr tube and idle air control valve
