High pitched whine from engine

Does anyone else have a high pitched whine from the passenger side of engine bay. I faintly here it driving down the road but really noticed it recently, while walking in front of car, while idling

Electro-hydraulic power steering pump working...located on the passenger side. Same sound I get from my 2015 Murano (It's the electric motor working that you hear). The pitch changes with steering input while not moving.

That's the hydraulic assist electric power steering, as mentioned earlier.

Hi guys. I have the exact same problem since yesterday and Nissan is closed for a two day holiday where I live. Is it okay to drive the car with this sound ? What is the cause of the problem and how was it t fixed?

See post directly above. It's normal, just annoying.

I'm a mechanic at Nissan and just bought a 16 myself and just like some mentioned it's the electric power steering pump designed to save more gas but can be annoying to people not familiar with it

Either you ppl are living wrong or I'm living right as I have not heard any odd noises coming from anywhere other than the exhausts which are slightly louder than other competing 2016 V6ers.

But now that I read about it, I'll probably start hearing it.

Both of my '13 Altimas had the same noise. Poor design at best.

@blackedoutmaxedout: is there a fix to this or just live with it?

Yes, thats what Nissan told me when they had a look at my car. Its normal.

Dont panic if you see that the fluid level in your car is low or a bit lower that "low". Its normal for the Maxima- confirmed by Nissan. Before i took the car to Nissan, i tried to top it up...i must have poured just 10 ml maybe and the level was back to normal. They showed me another car that was being serviced that had the same sound ...and the level was below the low mark on the dipstick.

Now i have a litre of Power Steering Fluid at home for nothing!

I didn't notice it until after I just hooked up all my audio gear and thought maybe I did something wrong lol. I guess this is the first time I've had the hood open with the car running. YODA VOICE://"pretty loud that whine is"

if it's normal it's normal, no one will be able to hear the car over my stereo anyways but thanks for calming my nerves.

LOL, Thats not the only one , there is a knocking noise when the engine is hot but as per another forum in this page it seems normal . And I'm also noticing that one too but many people have taken the car to the dealer for that noise with no fix...So ,I just don't open the hood while the engine is running just no to start worrying. MY car has only 27K but the bumper to bumper 3 year warranty expired this month....

Just bought a 2018 Maxima just last week, noticed that sound too. My previous Altima 3.5 SR did not have that sound. Very odd.
