I want to install a Walbro hi flow pump in my car. Can I and will it improve or hurt performance. Is it a good add on for future mods etc?

I had it and it was freakin annoying. You could hear that damn thing all the time as it had really loud hum noise. Also didn't improve performance for me it was kind of worse. Went back to oem and car ran much smoother and better and the pump was quite.

 

Have you done anything on your car which call for a higher flow rate than stock? NOS, turbo, super charging?
Which benefits are you looking for?

Thanks guys, but what will I need to make the car run smoother if I install one? I plan on adding boltons. Oovi intake, headers, maybe a supercharger. I want a little better than stock, will I need a afpr also

 

You will need it for boost. Otherwise, it's not needed even for bolt ons. With stock injectors and FPR there will be no changes in performance for better or worse.

I have one from 2J installed in prep for boost. I wanted to install it before the charger just to make sure it works well. Most go with Walbro but because of how make fakes there are and that annoying whine, I decided not to go with one of them. The 2J is nice. Same exact size as stock and is quiet aside from when it primes on start up.

 

I have two VE's, one boosted and one totally stock.

I recently rebuilt my turbo engine (low comp forged internals etc.). For the break-in, I swapped in the stock fuel pump/injectors from my other 3rd gen.

On the other hand, I swapped my Walbro 255 into my non-turbo car temporarily. It's been in there for a couple of months now. It starts, runs, drives perfectly normally. Only difference is my gas mileage has gone down noticeably.

I've always thought the loudness of the Walbro is massively overstated. You can hear it, especially at pre-crank priming, but other than that you wouldn't know any different. It's not like passengers notice it and are like "wtf is that sound!?" - yes you can hear it but it's not at all loud or intrusive. I mean I can hear my stock pumps on my other cars prime too, does that mean they're loud?

Anyway, as several others have stated, of course you can install a Walbro or whatever other upgraded fuel pump you want. But why you would want to fool with that in a non-turbo (or soon to be) car? It's pointless. And again really drops your gas mileage, at least judging by the Walbro in my otherwise bone stock 3rd gen.
