I am going to get leather seat covers through www.leatherseats.com and I want to get a group deal going. I already have about 3 people interested in this group deal anyone else who is interested you can e-mail me at nymjayjay@aol.com. The regular price is just about $700 for the seat covers but through this group deal it should be a good amount cheaper, So I am not sure if I should do this day prodject myself or get it installed by a pro.... If anyone has done this project on their own please e-mail me about it so I can see if I am going to do it on my own or if its too much of a pain in the @ss then I will get it done by a pro. thanks....

I did it myself. It did take a long time but its better then paying someone to do it. Just take your time and make sure you make it fit tight..

Install it yourself. I'm certain the place that quoted you $300 will up that price after they perform the work. It took me a solid 12 hours, maybe longer, and I was working at a quick pace. I don't know how a pro could do it any quicker than 10 hours. It's not hard. Take your time and you'll be fine.

the leather seats are awesome, it may take long to install them but i garentee you its worth it. I am getting them in my group deal for $100 saving on a group deal its good stuff. I am not going to complain about $577.15 for custom leather.....

Dude are you getting 2-tone leather? If yes, what colors? I would recommend getting leather door inserts that would match the inner inserts of your seats. If you take a close look at my sig pic you'll know what I mean.

 

I know what you mean and that is what I am ordering for myself for my max. The leather pattern that I am going to get goes up and down the whole seat though.....

Cuz thats like the only thing they do all day. My stereo a long time ago I had an amp/subs installed in my max and it took them like 30 minutes. When I got a new amp/subs I now know how to do it myself and when I installed my amp I bet it took me about...2 hours total. But, I did do a better job then they did on my first amp. Installers rush and take shortcuts, knowing that the average person who gets something installed by them won't be able to check their work.

I don't buy that for a second I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing at Leatherseats.com. They say 6 hours to lure you in to buying their covers, plus it makes you think it shouldn't take to long if you do it yourself.

Taking the seats in/out takes about 1 hour. I would take a pro atleast 2 hours to do the inserts because of all the trimming and gluing involved. The front seats have to be taken a part (lower cushion). The rear of the front seat requires covering the access panel and making map pockets. It would take a pro atleast 3 hours with the front seats. The back seat is relatively easy, but time consuming. I'd say 3 hours. Cutting off the hog rings takes quite a while because there are so many of those suckers, many of which are in tight spots. Getting the hog rings on is a beeatch because the leather is much tighter because it hasn't stretched therefore the space you have to work is minimal. I'm still saying 9-10 hours for a pro. I don't know what shop rates are, but I doubt they are working for $30/hour. I'd say it's closer to $50.

If you do have a pro install them, make sure to ask if the price you got is an estimate or if that's the firm price. I would 't be surprised if the installer changes their estimate after they get halfway thru the project.

I have never seen any automotive related service place do anything that can be done using one person, by multiple workers. It's in their interest to keep your car there as long as they can and take their sweet time doing the job at 60$/hr.

Well, either way.. it's cheaper to install them yourself. I would be worried about having even an upholstery shop install something I know I just paid 700$ for.
