removing the Wheel bearing lock nut

I was wondering the diameter of the wheel bearing lock nut? I don't have to remove it right now, but I have in the past (I couldn't do it because I couldn't reach the tourque requirements). I mgiht be purchasing an impact-wrench in the near future, and am wondering if I should just get a 1/2 in. drive or if I'll need a 3/4 in. drive for jobs involving things like the wheel bearing lock nut? Or will I need a 3/4 drive so rarely that I should just get a 1/2 in. drive and rent a 3/4 in. when I need it?

You wont need a 3/4" drive impact gun unless you're working on a Caterpiller bulldozer or something.
