Just got a 2000 maxima and I love it but have a few issues

OK so I bought a 2000 see for 500 runs and drives fine has a lot of miles but for 500 bucks I can't complain but of course with that I have a few issues when I bought the car it needed an alternator so I replaced that but still a battery and brake light pop up after about 3000 rpm witch I fixed bad ground but that brings Me to another set of issues I'm pretty sure that the gauge cluster is fried I've checked every fuse I can thinks of and more and nothing is this a common issue? It runs and drives great but seeing that I cannot tell engine temp it worries me it's only throwing one code speed sensor but I think this may be due to gauge malfunction any help would be great and please don't flame me lol I'm new the car

First thing first. How do you determine the gauge cluster is fried? Since is any of the gauges working, such as gas gauge, tach and so on...? as far as the temp gauge goes. two possibilities such as is it showing past the middle point, then your thermostat is stucked closed, which would be overheating, if the gauge not moving at all, then it could be a temp switch, that acts as a sending unit. and for the speed sensor, then that's probably why your speedometer on the cluster is not registering it. The speed sensor is so easy to replace which is mounted on the tranny on the driver side, however, you did not indicated if it a auto or manual? Hope this will guide you to the right direction to remedy the problem

Speed sensor would make the speedo gauge freeze, but if the whole cluster is off than replace both cluster and vss, who knows maybe the replacement speedo has less miles on the clock

Just get a cluster from the junkyard, and the vss while you at itshoot and any other sensors you could stuff in your pocket
