Has anyone tried auto braking
Has anyone tried auto braking
It says it will detect object in front and apply brake if so required. But mine does not do anything at all, not even slows down; 2016 SR. The intelligent cruise works fine and even brings car to complete stop.
Is there something i am missing here?
Is there something i am missing here?
That's really strange, it should be automatically on according to the manual.. how did you test it? did you end up hitting something? Does it not even do the audible warnings?
"
A radar system located behind the lower grille of the front bumper measures the distance to the vehicle ahead in the same lane, and operates at speeds above approximately 3 miles per hour.
If a risk of a forward collision is detected, the system provides a warning to the driver by a flashing indicator along with an audible alert.
If the driver applies the brakes quickly after the warning, and the system detects that there is still the possibility of a forward collision, the system will automatically increase the braking force.
If the driver does not take action, the Forward Emergency Braking system issues the second visual and audible warnings and also applies partial braking. If the risk of a collision becomes imminent, the system applies harder braking automatically.
Perform the following steps to turn the system ON or OFF:
● Press the right or left arrow button until “Settings” displays in the vehicle information display and then press the OK button.
● Press the up or down arrow button to select “Driver Assistance”
● Now, press the OK button.
● Select the “Emergency Brake” and press the OK button.
● Select “System” and press the OK button to toggle the system on or off.
● When the Forward Emergency Braking system is turned off, the warning light illuminates.
The PFCW system (if so equipped) is integrated into the FEB system. When the PFCW system setting is turned on or off, the FEB system is also turned on or off. The FEB and PFCW systems will be automatically turned on when the engine is restarted."

i felt it apply braking when i didn't push hard fast enough.
don't want to find out personally if it will stop for me.
but doesn't the manual mention that the sensors may not see all the time?
seen it flash red alerts a few times already, though.

I have not yet put my car in a situation where it would automatically begin braking. I have, however, been in dozens of situations where the audible alarm sounds and the lights begin flashing. The most common situations where I trigger the alarm are:
(1) - When I am closing behind a car rapidly, knowing I am approaching a chance to pass that car, but will need to be moving fast if I am to get around it before oncoming traffic arrives. The system has no way of knowing I will be changing lanes before hitting the car.
(2) - When I am overtaking a car in an adjacent lane but, due to curvature of the road, the system only knows the car is directly ahead of me, and does not know I am in a totally different lane.
I have tried to read all the material concerning this Automatic Braking, and remember reading that the system will not always bring my car to a complete stop, but will at least prevent a hard impact.

I guess it depends on what the object is. My assumption is that it is primarily designed to prevent hitting the car in front of you. So I'm not totally sure on objects smaller than that.
Like lightonthehill, I have not intentionally put my 2016 Maxima in situations that force any of these features to activate (too chicken); however, I have experienced several of the different stages of activations in real world situations - except for the final "slam on the brakes" stage.
I found it helpful to understand the different stages and what you see on the dash and what you hear. These are my observations, not directly out of a manual:
Predictive Forward Collision Warning (just a heads-up):
1. Detects cars slowing down rapidly up to 2 cars in front of you
White car icon; 3 very quick beeps
2. Detects the car in front of you is slowing down rapidly
Orange car icon; evenly spaced beeps
Forward Emergency Braking (car actually starts braking on its own):
Brakes are automatically applied more intensely as you are nearing a possible collision
Whole top section of dash display (where the clock and temperature are) starts flashing red and white, and (I think) the orange "collision" icon in the tachometer
Constant, evenly spaced beeps
Here is a good video that shows the different stages, though I think the icon used in the "2 cars ahead" section is not right:
This is a good one that shows automatic braking while Intelligent Cruise Control is active:
I have not found any videos on the web where someone tests the actual Forward Emergency Braking on the Maxima, but here is one on an Infiniti Q50, which I imagine would be similar:

The first and last videos show the FEB well.
Also, I would not recommend testing the FEB. It is designed to reduce the impact speed and will stop the car completely only if you are under a certain speed and it detects the obstacle early enough. Nissan doesn't seem to specify the speed but says the following which eludes to the fact you may still hit the object, just at a reduced speed.
FORWARD EMERGENCY BRAKING (FEB)[*]
Using radar technology to keep an eye on your speed and proximity to the vehicle ahead of you, Forward Emergency Braking gives you audible and visual display warnings to help you reduce your speed, if necessary. It can also apply braking if you fail to respond to help you avoid a collision. If a collision is unavoidable, this feature will engage the brakes to help reduce speed of impact and reduce the severity of a collision.

Is this standard on all 2016 Platinums? I can't access the Driver Assistance screen under settings? I have used the braking system when I have been in cruise control and it does indeed slow and eventually stop the car completely. But does this work when not in cruise?

Thanks for the responses guys.
Nissan has not published any official testing on it. Which means, this system is buggy and they know it.
Nissan claims Innovation but with open bugs lol... These so called semi autonomous braking system is just a bragging right.

Start the car press menu button and turn volume **** right till it bring some kind of menu after that just follow where you need to be at.
Hope it hepls!

I have unfortunately (or fortunately) been able to trive out the emergency braking system. And i can say with confidence, it works like a charm on my '16 SR (in the UAE the SR comes with all the platinum options). A guy on the road burst a tire and decided to come to an emergency stop from about 60 kmph...before i could have touched the brakes, the system warned me with a red and white collisiong warning in the topmost display cluster and the yellow emergency braking sign in the Engine RPM cluster flashed and while my foot was lightly on the brake pedal...it moved all the way to the floor and stopped the vehicle.
Very surreal...but definitely worked for me. Hope not to try it again though

Good to know it works, glad you're safe!

I had a similar situation with a car making a right hand turn in front of me while I was going straight. I wouldn’t have hit the car but there would not have been a lot of spacing either. The Maxima slammed the brakes on its own, I did not know it would do this btw, surprised the crap out of me and scared the crap out of the car behind me. I was lucky to not get rear ended. Moral of the story would be don’t put the car in a position where it’s going to do that.
It's more common for it to brake aggressively when someone's turning off the road and I've got cruise control turned on. But i found a trick that works pretty good. If I see situation ahead that I think might trigger a slowdown, I just push slightly on the gas. That seems to prevent it from braking most of the time
