Nissan Maxima 02 sensor Replacement

I Got a Computer engine code P0135 on my 1999 which said something with my 02 bank 1 sensor 1 was not working correctly. I bought a new 02 sensor but am having difficulties knowing which one is the Bank 1 Sensor 1. How can I be sure I am pulling out the right one?

Bank 1 is the closest to the firewall on a transverse mounted engine. Sensor 1 is the sensor nearest to the exhaust manifold.

Bank 1 (Right) vs Bank 2 (Left) is determined by position from the operator seat looking over the engine from the rear. In a transverse arrangement, the engine has been rotated so the engine rear is on left (driver) side of the engine compartment.

There is a youtube video available for removing Bank 1 Sensor 1 on a Maxima.

So you won't forget how the Right vs. Left bank cylinder assignment works, it actually got started with two cylinder steam locomotives.

How many miles do you have on your Maxima and the O2 sensors? If your sensors haven't been replaced, it usually works out for the best if you can replace both.
