All I can find on this code anywhere is "cylinder 11 misfire". I have reset the code twice and it keeps coming back after about 100 miles. Well then... Is my Maxima suffering from age related dementia and confusing itself with a Maserati, or am I missing something?

 

Well you have a misfire ultimately. Have you checked all the coils, injectors, and plugs?

 

I have recently done the plugs and replaced one bad coil. I cant feel a misfire; the engine is running very smoothly and has adequate power (for 300k miles). And I am still wondering why the code indicates cylinder 11 on a 6 cylinder??

 

Just to clarify I am reading the code correctly? I'm using the diagnostic screw on the ECU to flash the code. I get 3 long flashes, short pause, 11 short flashes, longer pause, repeat. This does equal 0311 and not 1103 correct?

blink code 0311 is OBD code P1491 - Vacuum Cut Bypass Valve. It is located in the area behind the left rear tire, near the EVAP canister.

See page 404 in section EC of the Nissan service manual. Page 406 is how to test it.
