I have a 99 I30 , (Maxima clone)I had the trunk lid replaced (person ran into it). and I have an intermittent brake light on the drivers side of the trunk lid. works one day, not the next.
they got the lid from a u pick yard (these car parts are getting old).
does the wire that feeds the trunk lid for the brake lights feed both sides of the trunk lid?
My guess maybe its a bulb / socket issue as it was in a u pick yard and trunk may have been open
I just changed mine- trunk lid. How bad was it hit? Most likely the new lid did not come with the harness. The harness runs on the left side hinge and under the sound insulation. It runs last to the brake light and key switch on the right side.
I would check the harness plug in to the brake light. Make sure it is connected all the way. If so just change bulbs from the left side and see if the problem stays or moves with the bulb.
When you have the bulbs out look for corrosion in the socket.
If you see no obvious reason for the intermittent working pull the sound insulator down by removing the clips and check the harness for damage in the accident.
I have a 99 Nissan Maxima (4th Gen) and was wondering someone can give me a hand with trouble shooting.
My brake lights aren't work. I checked the fuses and they are good, I replaced all of the bulbs, and the brake switch was just replaced last year. My running lights, tail lights, turn signals, and reverse lights work.
It is really hard to explain but the pictures will help with finding the switch and what the problem could be. Once you find the switch press in the plunger and have a helper view if your brake lights come on.
If you find you do not have the missing plastic piece in pictures in 26. Get any M5 pan head bolt or a SAE one that will fit in the hole. Install the pan head bolt so the pan head is facing the plunger on the switch. This will allow the plunger to hit the pan head bolt and depress it.
A pan head bolt closely resembles the original plastic piece. Since you depress the brake pedal frequently a regular bolt head might snap the plunger on the switch.
Alright so my brake lights won't come on (the two in the back of the car or the one in the back window)
This is what I've done so far:
1) Put new light bulbs for the tail lights, brake lights, and 3rd light in the back window
2) Checked the stop lamp fuse and it looks good, also I used a different 15 amp fuse to check and see if it might have been that.
3) Put new pan head bolts for the brake switch & cruise control switch
4) Replaced the brake light switch
5) Replaced the cruise control switch
6) Inspected the brake light sockets for corrosion but none was noticed, and the lights in those sockets work when you turn on the tail lights
With all of the items done above, the brake lights still wont' come on? Can really use some assistance
Are there additional fuses to check inside the cabin of under the hood?
