Are HomeLink Buttons on Rear View Mirror Illuminated?

Hi. I just got a certified pre-owned 2017 Maxima SV and was wondering if the HomeLink buttons on the automatic anti glare rear view mirror are supposed to be illuminated when the headlights are on? On my other car it is. Thanks, Dave

I have some small (1/4 inch) round clear cushions that are used to put on the bottom of items to keep them from touching whatever you set the item on. With that said I put one on the button for my garage door so all I have to do is feel for the small bump and push it. Keeps me from having to look up at the mirror and hunt for the button.

That's a great idea! I may do the same.

Anyone have difficulty programming the HomeLink buttons? I've followed the directions in the user manual to a tee, and it's just not working.

I'm in Canada (followed the directions for Canadian users), and no luck. Anyone else have this issue?

If you have a older garage motor set up it will not work.

I would have thought the homelink would have worked on ten yeqr old door openers. The homelink on our 2009 Maxima worked on garage doors at our previous home that were over ten years old.

What brand ? I replace my with a lift master with myQ system and my 2012 nissan pathfinder homelink stop working because they update the signal to make it harder to hack. So i end up just using a remote.

Craftsman.

Using a remote now, would’ve preferred to use the HomeLink function, but still enjoying my new Max!

There should be a button on the garage door power unit under the lights
that must be pressed after following the steps in the owners manual of the car.
My garage door opener is over 10 yrs old and works with every car I have had.

From Homelink:

For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink® buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash, which may take up to 20 seconds. (Do not perform this step when training the additional HomeLink buttons.)
Position the hand-held transmitter 1-3 inches away from the HomeLink surface (usually located on your visor, overhead console, or mirror), keeping the HomeLink indicator light in view.
Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the desired HomeLink button and hand held transmitter button. DO NOT release until the HomeLink indicator light flashes slowly and then rapidly. When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. (The rapid flashing indicates successful training.)
A second person may make the following steps quicker and easier. Please use a ladder or other device. Do not stand on your vehicle to perform the next steps. On the garage door motorhead, press and release the learn code button - the red LED will begin to blink.
Get back into your vehicle and press the desired HomeLink button one time.
Press the desired HomeLink button a second time.
Press the HomeLink button a third time. You should see the garage door open/close. HomeLink programming is complete.

I recently noticed the lack of lights on the Homelink buttons too since they are lit up on our Hyundai and they weren't so easy to find on my Maxima. FWIW, I have a 20 year old Craftsman (made by Chamberlain) opener and it works just fine with every Homelink-ready car I've had (99 Maxima, 2004 Honda, 2013 Hyundai, and 2016 Maxima).
