Nissan wheel protection?

Anyone here have any experience with Nissan's Security+Plus Tire and Wheel Road Hazard Protection Plan? Planning to purchase an '18 Maxima soon and concerned about all I've read on here about the curb rash due to the ties having no lip to protect the wheels. Thought it might be worth investing in Nissan's wheel protection that can optionally provide for the repair of cosmetic damage to wheels including curb damage. Available in 1-7 year terms. Anyone here have any experience with Nissan's wheel protection plan? What's approximate cost for (for how many years)? Find it was worth it? Any other specific recommendations/advice on this topic? Thanks in advance!

wheel repair

I did NOT get the wheel protection (2017 Platinum) and of course, immediately scuffed the wheel. What I will tell you is that wheel repair doesn't cost that much. I had a local shop come to my place and fix the wheel. Nice job, $190 bucks in about 90 minutes. IMO there's no financial case to pay insurance for 60+months for this issue.

I had curb scrapes on three wheels, and had them all repaired for $375. I got a decent price because I had three repaired at once. Getting one done around where I live would have cost between $150 and $200.

I have not curbed a wheel since around a year ago. I found out quickly that these wheels and OEM tires are totally defenseless, so stay away from curbs, even if it means parking in the next galaxy and calling UBER or LYFT to get to the store entrance (j/k; my wife and I do a LOT of walking).

Very helpful guys. So who here did buy Nissan's wheel protection? Can you share the cost, what the options were if any in terms of years, deductibles, etc.?

We have visited this topic before and my feelings have changed. In 26 months my wife has wiped out 2 wheels and one tire. Total cost to fix was 800 bucks with me shopping out wheels on Ebay and a correct tire on Tire Rack. Without the Platinums cameras I'm sure it would be even more damaged wheels (not rims). What I don't remember is what the tire / wheel insurance would have cost per month with my dealer though. I'm sure it might have been less than the amortized cost I have now of over 30 bucks a month so far! (800/26 months=$30.76). These cars just eat wheels faster than any other car I have owned!

Anyone else purchase wheel protection from Nissan, or want to offer an opinion on?

Did not purchase and was not offered it. I went into the dealership telling myself if they offered the protection at a good price, I would take it. They didn’t. So now I’m looking online at wheel prices for the optional wheels that I got with the medallion package. The price per wheel is $219. If I really scratch one up, $219 doesn’t seem like a terrible price to replace completely.

Migs109, hadn't looked, but pleasantly surprised that that's all it would cost to replace a Maxima '16-'18 stock or alternate (one that came with Medallion package) wheel (ones made by Nissan, not aftermarket). What was the cost of the wheel protection package you were offered? What were the key T's & C's, e.g. years, deductible, etc?

They didn’t even offer it to me. I’m kinda glad they didn’t cause it felt like I dodged a bullet after I seen the price for a new wheel.

I have wheel and tire protection but NOT for curbing the vehicle. I just got it for road hazards. You can buy these rubber lips that can protect your wheels and even look fairly inconspicuous on the cars. They'll help protect the wheel in the event of a quick curbing. They wanted me to pay $20/month extra for the curb insurance. Not worth it IMO.

I scrapped one of my Medallion rims and was so upset as I am always so careful.. I was actually able to buy a brand new medallion rim from the dealer for $235.00. I have yet to put it on yet..

Oh also, you can never change your wheels if you buy this. I'm stuck with mine otherwise my tire protection will be wasted because they dealer said they'll only honor it if the tire is the same size as the OEM wheels.

I have had the tire and wheel protection on my last two Maximas. Cost about $15/mo added to my lease. On my last Max, my Godson blew out a tire on his way home from his prom (I let him borrow the car). On my current '16 Platinum, I have some curb rash on the passenger side rim which I plan to have replaced after the winter. In both cases, I think it was a worthwhile investment.
