2011 maxima 115K miles

After being advised by 3 Nissan service managers @ 60k, 75k & 90k miles NOT to change out my CVT tranny fluid, I'M wondering what I presently do @ 115k. Car runs great, no slipping. HELP

The decision is all yours. Many of us do 60, some 90. A drain and fill with filter change is pretty easy and can add years to your car. Just stay consistent on your maintenance and keep a light foot.

Change is good. 5 litres and 30 minutes well spent.

They don't want you to change it so you can come buy a newer car when the transmission dies on you.

2011, 117K miles

I had the tranny oil changed last week, spent oil was very dark, I will have it analyzed by independent lab. With the new oil, car runs great. Although the maxima is called a 4DSC (Four Door Sports Car) My wife and I never rodded it, always watched the RPM's regarding MPH. The technician @ Performance Nissan Cincinnati explained to me that the two main reasons for failure was due to low oil pressure regarding the solenoids and valves, and also bearing fatigue. I asked the type of pump in the tranny (i.e gear, positive displacement, or piston), he did not know, ( Strange) Plan on changing the coolant and brake fluid soon.

If they just drain and refilled it, you will still have old oil in there still.... plus the filter is dirty too from before, you didn't mention if you changed that.....might wanna get that with the next drain and refill imo, its like 30$ most.

Sub $20 for the filler at most, ordered directly from any Nissan dealer, takes 20 min to replace.

I believe this is a MAJOR factor in extending the life of this trany. I'm never comfortable exceeding 2.5k rpm on this thing.

If anything CVTs need clean fluid more urgently than regular trannies.
Maybe they thought u were gonnna do it DIY and use the wrong fluid? ( happens a lot)

The service manaul only says to "I"nspect the fluid every 15k miles (MA-13). It never says to replace it. It does refer us to another section to determine if it needs to be replaced or not, which could be a judgment call. Safe bet would be to replace it with the NS-2 fluid. As far as the filter goes, it does not mention that in the SM, but that is just good insurance.

The filter is this one 31726-1XE0A ($34)

I got my car with 60k miles on it about 5 years ago, it is a 2009, original transmission. I do all my own maintenance, and at 80k I just did a drain and fill on the trans because I am sure it was never done before. I do a drain an fill on mine about every 20k-25k depending on what is being done at the time. I have 120k on it now, and the transmission is still very smooth. No need to flush it, just drain and fill it.

How many drain and refills so far you've done? With filter each time?

I don't have my manual right in front of me, but I believe it states to check the fluid at 90k - there is a code that can tell if the fluid needs to be changed or not. However, like many others have noted, it's pretty cheap insurance and relatively easy to do a drain/refill more frequently as cheap insurance.

I change my CVT fluid every 50k miles and I changed the tranny filter at 150k miles. So far my car has 160k miles and I've had no major issues with it and would have no problem driving it on a 2k or 3k mile trip.
