Running power to a trailer from the trunk

I recently bought a small utility trailer to use with my '10. I need to install a wiring harness in the car to use to run the trailer lights. Etrailers has a number of them, but they all require running a wire through the trunk floor, across the bottom of the car, and up into the engine bay.

This seems a little nutty to me. Surely there's a way to run the wire internally from the fuse box? Or pull power from anything else in the back?

I wouldn't tow anything with our cars having CVTs, That's just my opinion but by all means it's your investment. Have you checked the FSM? Can you wire from the rear lights maybe?

It's probably a light module that requires power from the battery...

Take the car to a U-Haul that does hitches/wiring if you're not comfortable doing the work.

There isn't enough power to the rear lights, it needs a separate line. I was curious if anyone had attempted to route anything from the trunk to the fuse box. Perhaps for a subwoofer or the like.

That's not a helpful comment. The car is rated to tow 1000 pounds. You have no idea what I'll be towing, on what terrain, for how long, or with what load in the car. Categorically dismissing the idea is foolish.

This was really easy. Ran from the box down the plastic trim the rear seat, then adjacent to and behind the seat, and just behind the felt. Hard to describe, easy to do. The whole install was about 45 minutes. I have no idea why they insist on drilling a hole in the trunk and going under the car.

Sorry it's late, I did this too. Like you say, not bad at all running the wire through the car. The most bothersome part was going through the firewall. I don't tow often and have 190,000 on the car......change the CVT fluid every ~ 45,000
