New to the forums
Hey guys,
I've been on the forums pretty frequently, but only recently registered. I own a 1997 Infiniti I30 and I've had it for about 4 years now, and I've put in 50,000 miles since I've owned it (currently at about 301k miles with original engine + transmission). I also own a 2002 Mercedes SL500 that I would love to drive everyday, but that thing chugs thru gas like there's no tomorrow. I haven't done much to the I30 in terms of performance, but I've done a couple mods such as fitting the SE Maxima cluster, new shifter (plus a switch for overdrive), cloth seats (from my dad's SE, leather seats were ruined when I got them), SE springs (previous owner cut the original I30 springs), one piece cefiro blacked out headlight housing with H4 HIDs, and an aftermarket steering wheel and quick release. I love the I30 since it's pretty decent on power, when it wants to (I suspect a partially working knock sensor is messing with the power output).
I'm not exactly a mechanic by any means, but I did learn a lot from my dad when he used to own a 1997 SE Maxima, and I've been doing most of the maintenance myself to keep my I30 running like a beauty. I love working on the I30 as much as I can with my current skills but I can always rely on my dad to help since he's an actual mechanic. She runs well, but exterior looks aren't its best feature, mainly taking a beating on the paint and clear coat.
I plan on trying to keep this I30 for as long it'll let me. but I also would like to turn this into a fun little project car that's daily derivable. My goal would be to complete a 5speed swap on it eventually, sourcing parts are pretty difficult here in Las Vegas, although not impossible. I was planning on getting a whole maxima 5speed for extra parts. Currently, I plan on replacing that knock sensor for the inconsistent power issue, getting some coilovers or lowering springs (haven't decided yet, just got new struts), replacing the trunk with the post-facelift i30 with spoiler, and eventually a repaint in the original color (I think the paint code was BS3).
Anyways, just dropping in some info about myself and my I30, hopefully I'll be sticking around for a while
