Knock Sensor: Common Fail?
Knock Sensor: Common Fail?
Is it common for knock sensors to fail on these 3.5's?
I Need to change the rear Valve Cover and since I'm removing the intake plenum, thinking of things that I will have access to.
Plugs, Coil Packs, and VVT Solenoid are less than a yr old.

Not necessary to pull the UIM....It's under the LIM a long 1/4" drive extension and 12 mm swivel works great every time I've changed one of these....Use mechanical fingers when reinstalling or a swivel socket and a little bit a sticky grease, fuel lube, or double sided tape inside the swivel socket...
My symptoms were performance loss then restarting the car makes it normal again. Cool story. Had these idiots over at Womick Automative llc in Cumming, GA do a engine swap from a altima to my 5.5. Other then cracking the lower pan putting it on and stripping out most of the sensor holes they left the 6th gen plug for the KS which was completely different but you could still plug it in. About 10 miles into a ride timing would drop out until you restarted the car. Another time with oem was on a long trip after about 200 miles I would get the same thing and restarting fixed it. Turned out to be the knock sensor.
If you have small hands you can do it without taking off the LIM. Make sure the engine is cold though, even so and wear some kind of thicker gloves than nitrite there are some sharp edges in there. Or use those tools like above poster.
Thx
