I have a 98 maxima with 75000miles and i need help finding a cheap catback exhaust system since my original is rusted and developed a hole. Has anyone ordered exhaust system from rockauto? I need advice.

I’ve ordered a couple from RockAuto. I would stay away from The bosal value line. Rusted out for me in less than 4 years. Currently running the bosal Standard line also off RockAuto. Fit was a little tight and resonator is large like the OEM so be careful jumping curbs/ up and down sloped driveways. Only had it a few months so can’t give info on how it will last.

I changed mine with the Walker part. I got it from AdvanceAuto with a coupon so it was decent price. I actually painted it with the Rustoleum high temperature paint; I know it can rust from inside out. But it looks great still (it's been 2 years). The fit was good. No issues.

Walker has a 409 Stainless Steel combo offering. Get the part numbers and buy from whoever offers the best shipped price. With this, Google is your friend.

Just go to Magnaflow I've used their universal muffler for decades and they're virtually indestructible! My former D21 which I sold 2 years ago had the same 6" round x 14" long Magnaflow muffler installed for 20 yrs and never rusted nor was ever touched again after it was installed in 2000. So Walker can kiss my behind since I know I installed 4 Walker Turbo mufflers and their SS version didn't yet but was a result of the poor life of their Aluminized versions that lasted less than 2 yrs each.

If your looking for a nice decent aftermarket exhaust with performance help try megan exhaust performance.they are good exhaust products for the maxima. The walker and the magnaflow are also a good brand exhaust but walker exhaust is more on the stock and quiet side than noise and performance. The magnafllow can be quiet or noisey depending on the set up and which magnaflow exhaust performance your using,

This is a Magnaflow Universal muffler p/n: 12576 22" x 11" x 5" 2.5" in/out and 2.5" tubing also utilizing a 4" round x 22" Magnaflow muffler as the resonator p/n: 10426. here's a picture of it! The mufflers were purchased through Amazon and the tubing kit cost $130 (Trubendz) and about $50 to weld the flanges and hooks on the exhaust system.

You can always buy an inexpensive eBay exhaust and fit it with bigger, better mufflers....TruBendz has 2.25", 2.5", 3.0" in aluminized steel and SS. Tubing kits are easy, inexpensive, and flexible to be built to your preference...Oh by the way mine isn't noisy either! It has a slightly deeper tone at idle and during acceleration! Very smooth and compliant during cruise speeds and not obvious nor obnoxious!

I'm not sure who had fitment issue with Cattman Products but I can only speak for myselfand the several items such as Cattman headers, Cattman 3" catback exhaust, Cattman Ti-Bar FTSB etc..... I've retrofitted the 3" Cattman Catback resonator with the 6" round x 18" long Magnaflow muffler named "The Carltonator" because I wanted a even quieter 3" exhaust which I found to be quieter than the Cattman 2.5" catback! Anyway I'll defend Brian Catts (Cattman) and his product since he's always stood behind anything that was a problem or issue! I stand behind Brian Catts (Cattman) because b4 NISFORMANCE there was no one making parts exclusively for Nissan Maximas other than Engine mods and bolt-ons from JWT and Nissan Motorsports due to the 280z, zx, 300zx crossover powerplants also used in 810/Maximas..
I too have built things for my Maxima or had things built for the Maxima line including ASP racing pulleys for the SOHC VG30E, Trubendz (MES) catback exhaust system for both the 3rd & 4th Gen Maxima. I've tried working for the Maxima Community and trying to do group buys because people are talking about what they want and need! Then you get a group list together and 1/4 of those some ***** are now silent lambs! So I understand why Brian left and That's why so many people build one off items for themselves including you "Wizard"...I can't trust that there's a real need or demand for Nissan Maxima parts because everyone wants something for nothing in a term I call "El Cheapos". I would love to use my skill set and talent to build some cool stuff but the Maxima.org community isn't a fulltime community nor are the members as interested in coming together to solve any issue or gain maximum performance for our Maxima(s). If I wrong please respond!

I can agree with you on this, I even had wizard informed first before anyone than whomever was intrested after about me and a fellow orger and you and some others that were intrested in a group vote to get the guys from megan and stunings to make a heades and y-pipe combo+ catbacks and it was in the process and it stalled out because of the lack of votes and demands on the new productions for the maximas. It was in the works of getting produce the guy talked with me but he was always wondering of the other buyers and the support from the org to get them produced.. I am willing to call him up and start the inquire again for the productions.

Apparently I missed out on this but I'll be willing to try to help develop any and everything we can but the Orgers sound devoted until it's time to pull the actual trigger! Whatever this is regarding the headers/Catback from Megan...I'll be glad to add my $.02 if needed in whatever kinda way!

There is/was clear evidence that Cattman did not stand behind his products at the very end. Once he was called out, he blamed the car stating that "every Maxima is different/all Maximas are not built the same", and it wasn't his product's fault. Very lame that he wouldn't take responsibility. You've been around long enough, you should remember the fiasco with the 3" catbacks fitting poorly and the banging issues. At least half the people in the group deal had banging issues, the other half stayed quit while only a few people reported no issues. Headers and TI bar were/are great. The 2.5" system was pretty decent too. Seemed like a cool guy when I spoke to him on the phone, but his ego/pride got in his own way at the very end.

Hey cmax03, it's good to hear from you again, I appreciate the effort on your help on the exhaust nightmares, I do remember you helping me on the search of the good aftermaket exhaust you linked me to trubends and some other makes out their. I did try to at a couple of points try a group vote but only you and wizard and one other person wanted to get this going but that plan stalled out because the producer wanted real hard proof votes and he even joined here to see what was going on but dead and quite as it was here he ghosted out of here but he said to get the productions from stunings or megan they are quote looking for people that are intrested in HEADERS AND Y-PIPE AND CATBACK COMBO. The last person to do it for us was cattman from brians but I found these two companies that are willing to make the exhaust out of SS304 stainless steel metal straight from japan and china. We talked about shorty headers first than if he succeeds with this we will go to the long headers like OBX headers but correct the fitment issues that they had on the 0BX headers and the manzo headers AKA megans other brand. I had my headers and y-pipe combo batch that I saved from manzo because stunings wanted to copy off of the design and correct that and better it in his productions, Stunings producer also told me that he for the catback he will make the 2.5 inches and the 3 inches in the line up. This was a promising plan and he was willing to do it but it stalled out. I had no votes and he is still able to work with me and he is wanting more than 2-4 people that are intrested for this process. These guys are good they won't dissapoint. I will try again, let's try to see what these guys are about.

I don't know what else to say about Cattman 3" Catback fitments I'm using polybushing and got it centered through the rear axle multi-link suspension which is a tight fit so if you don't get your fitment adjusted correctly you will have banging!

Now regarding the Catback exhaust systems for 5th, 4th and 3rd Gen Maxima(s) is my same referred to info suggesting Trubendz exhaust systems or tubing systems! Those not interested in Trubendz need to get a little creative! I would locate some eBay exhaust systems for the cheap and install larger higher quality mufflers! Many different routes available and if there are any Orgers in the Houston area, i'll be glad to help you build a really nice exhaust system!

Cattman 3" exhaust

This is correct, I remember Brian saying every Maxima was different, my exhaust tip on the 3' was actually sinking behind the bumper and he had to send me some spacers to have my exhaust tip where it needed to be, and yes I had to pay for them. I also had the 2.5' Cattman but has no issues with that one.

wiz, I sent you a message regarding the 3" Cattman as I was one of the original 10 to get these.. I'm having some vibration issues and I believe its from the exhaust. I had a shop check it out and it appears there's clearance but from flexing and moving during acceleration and mostly highway speeds I believe the exhaust is touching under somewhere but can't find from where since there's nothing touching when the car was on a lift at the shop.. went through every inch and nothing is touching. I think its an intermittent issue when the exhaust flexes, any ideas where the exhaust may be touching during movement and how to fix it?

I utilize Kart Boy Poly exhaust hangers and the exhaust system stays in place for years until they wear out the stud bores....

Well Guys Nisformance is building a non-resonatored 3" catback pretty much a Cattman 3" catback (same builder) and NISFORMAMNCE GEN4 HEADERS with 3" collector!
