My '20 Max SR impressions update.

So I figured I would write a essay on how my impressions have been with this car since trading in my '17 black SR for the '20 'SR.

So currently I have had my car 6 months and put 4,200 miles on it( picked it up with 2 miles on it). I fell in love with my '17 and still am in love everytime I sit in the '20. It's just such a cool car, and especially when taking road trips.

Now with that being said I am very disappointed in the quality of Nissan, especially when my monthly went from $350 to $450( could've gotten $400 a month but my credit score dropped a tiny bit, regardless I be saying this if it was $400.)

So as far as the quality is concerned I'll make a list so this really doesn't become a essay, lol.

1. Gaps all around car are not equal, this is my biggest gripe where the car gaps on basically everything don't match, and the doors aren't aligned so the front passenger door is not smooth with the rear and so on. Now this may have been the case with the black SR but with a white car at least to me it stands out so much.
2. The new black headliner looks much better but when looking at the moon roof you can see white paint.
3. The steering wheel has some blemishes and you can see the stitching fraying.
4. The tech in the car is intermittent but doesn't seem to be as quirky as my '17. So example my '17 never seemed to remember the brightness of my gauges so every 3-4 times it would default back to 1 below full brightness. But I do notice random quirks.
5. The weather stripping(if that's the term) for around the hood and inner fenders is a joke and definitely does not block water like other cars.
6. The seat materials suck, as you can see the back of the passenger seat is already ripping.

So basically the extra bump up in cost of the car has gotten me to look at things I probably wouldn't have cared about before or just could've look the other way.

I have some more gripes but I'll leave this for now. Attached are some pictures.

I can only speak for my 18. I haven't had any of those issues. I have had the plastic trim peices behind the rear doors come loose 3 times now, but we all know that's a common issue. I've had mine a year and half now and it's held up well. No rattles or squeaks (yet). Been happy with mine so far. At this point, the maxima may be an after thought for nissan. Just milking sales as much as they can

Nice writeup. Could I suggest these issues deserve to be addressed with the dealer if you have the time and desire to chase the details. The only way Nissan gets better is to call them out on the problems. My 2019 Platinum (14000 miles) has been OK though I do get a "beer can" type exhaust rattle? at about 35 MPH when the car is at its lowest RPMs. I am waiting till the next service to chase this noise down. (Could be a heat shield)

Keep us posted on how your car ages.

I am planning on bringing up some items when I bring it in for an oil change however there's a bit more to the story which made me not care about the car anymore.

About 3 months ago I woke up to my wheels, rims and tires stolen. So the D-Bags cost 7 grand of damage to the floor and rocker panels, not major damage but the entire front end needed to come apart Along with the carpet pulled back to fix the floor. Luckily only paid $500 deductable but my interest in this particular car since the damages has gone to the wasteside.

Sorry to hear about the issues you have experienced with your new Max! Like you, I went from a '17 SR to a 2020 version. I did a lengthy walk- around while negotiating the purchase and did not have any concerns- I did look closely at the shut lines and panel gaps, checked all of the rubber weather strips, interior, etc and found no outstanding issues. Car is very quiet and feels great. I hope your dealer addresses your concerns and has your back!

Definitely bring these issues up with your dealer. I haven't experienced any of your issues with my 17 SL regarding the electronics, steering wheel, or seat material and those would severely dampen my overall view of the car if I was having the same issues you are running into

yikes that sucks man. Takes a real piece of work to mess with another man’s automobile.

So last night it rained and I opened the drivers door and noticed water dripping on the bottom .. I've seen this before and if it was just coming from the weather stripping I wouldn't mind but it was dripping between the metal and plastic.

So yeah I'm not sure if this car is just a lemon or if the Nissan assembly workers down there in Tennessee just suck and the quality is getting worse. But I am really disappointed in this car... It's still fun but I am so glad I am leasing and didn't spend $42,000.

Here's a picture I took after I took a quick drive... Water drops are still there.

Damn, I didn't have any of these same issues as you and neither did my friend that has a Maxima. Sucks that you got such a lemon dude. They failed big time putting your car together

My guess on this door leak is that the water sealer sheet between the door panel and the metal part of the door has either failed or was never installed properly. Usually, the sealer sheet is attached with a pliable putty. This is not a big deal to fix DIY.
Let us know what you find. By the way, even if you are leasing, you are still paying for this car by a usage fee for the depreciation. I'd want it fixed because it bothers you.

It does bother me, especially because I'm paying however the fight will almost certainly not be worth it.

Let's say all of these items I brought up and asked to get fixed, I know there is no way anything would be done without at the very least several arguments with management, especially my biggest annoyance with the car gaps.

Even then I can only imagine how many phone calls and just utter frustration this will entail. Add in the damages and I have no desire to sink any real effort into a fight to fix the car.

I might have a way out of the lease that im not gonna get into online but I'm just gonna keep having fun in the car for now.

Sorry to hear about the issues.

i still like my 17’ platinum. Its been very good to me so far, so I don’t think I’ll take any chances trading up. I kind of prefer the look of the 16-18 anyway, although I wish front lip clearance was better (which the new models appear to be). Have a bit of trouble with the sloped driveways and curved sidewalks

Damn man, that sucks, I would take the car to the dealer, I have a '19 SR and I havent most of those problems, the only one would be the marks on the steering wheel, but then again, I already put 23k miles on it. But other than that, I get no water inside, the doors are aligned, the seats are in perfect condition and the stitching is great on the console.

You are not the 1st person to complain about the steering wheel stitching or leather quality! I'd push for a replacement before the full warranty is gone.
