70k miles & completely immobile help appreciated

So i recently bought a 2012 maxima with only 70k miles on it but after driving it no more than a week it is broken down and completely immobile. Shortly after I got it it began to massively hesitate at acceleration from a stop and slip as if it were trying to decide what gear to go into but it would only do it when hot. It would be ok from cold start and gradually get worse to the point where a few times i had the pedal to the floor accelerating from a stop and the car would just kind of bog out and never begin acceleration to the point where i had to pull off the road. Kill ignition, let it sit, start it up, improvement. Now Initially it was throwing the p1778 code and the symptoms seemed to validate that so i changed the step motor which for a short period of time seemed to solve the problem. Then it gradually began again until finally the other day after putting the pedal down on the freeway for a minute I stopped at a red light and upon green i got nothing from it. No response. Just "bogging" out for a lack of a better term and then i shut the car off, started it back up, and now it wont even move. The shifter will move into all gears but its as if its not actually engaging. Will not move in D or R and when given gas in either it will not rev. PLEASE! Im about to lose my *** on this car if i dont figure this out.

How much did you pay for it? Seems you landed on a pile if s***
You need a transmission.

This has happened to me rwice. Both times the alternator was toast. Check your voltages and please let us know what the issue was.

+1

If the electronics/ignition/CPU are not receiving proper voltages the vehicle won't work right. I would not be so quick to blame the CVT either. With only 70k I doubt there is anything massively wrong with your vehicle.

You can destroy this transmission in one week

These CVT'S can give out at any given moment with out warning at any mileage, it does and has happened to many people. That said as LtLeary stated above the alternator should be tested first, these cars can do all funny things when there isn't a proper charge going to the battery to efficiently power all the sensors and components. Hopefully it's just the alternator going bad, worst case and a very strong possibility the CVT is done. Good luck with this and please let us know what it turns out to be and how you make out!

All good advice so far. Check voltage, pull codes. Tranny is fine.

Have you check tranny fluid level?

May be something relatively easy like tranny shift solenoid.
