Hi maxima.org. I have noticed a low rpm tick sound under the hood after the motor mounts were done a while back. Sounded a lot like an exhaust leak tick. No leaks. It was at the dealer today and they said it was the solenoids ticking on a high mileage car, 134K on the odometer. I did search and saw some older gen maxes with ticking solenoids but also had check engine lights. Anyone else have an issue like this?

 

Injectors or a small exhaust leak. Everything else you mentioned is BS. Unplug the solenoids while the engine is idling and see if the sound goes away. It won't because it's not IVT solenoids because they aren't even being used until 1500rpm. Stop talking to dealer grease monkeys and find a mechanic who knows what he's talking about.

 

It is noticeable on slow low rpm acceleration. Nothing at idle or in park revving, under light load. Tick tick tick and eventually engine sound takes over.
