Question 2017 Nissan Maxima SL - Infotainment Question

Hi Guys,

New to this forum, looking forward to speaking with all of you over time. I am an owner of a 2017 Nissan Maxima SL under a lease.

I had recently cracked my infotainment screen and my lease is coming to an end. (Nissan we're not too nice about extending it more than 3 months) I had bought a new digitizer for the infotainment center so I thought I'd take apart the center console and then replace the actual screen rather than the infotainment center. I had used all the proper precautions of disconnecting the wires, battery etc. When I had installed the screen with all ribbon strips installed correctly, had the part number match up as well when i re-assembled it and reinstalled it - now my screen does not turn on nor do the buttons light up on the sides. What I find odd is that the buttons do not light up at all for i.e. Audio, Map, etc. in parallel with my screen not working.

The radio, USB audio, GPS location on dashboard, climate control all work but it is basically an electric dead space within the infotainment system and all surrounding buttons. The premise was to change the screen prior to returning my lease so that I don't get nicked over the head for 3K for a new radio by Nissan.

Had anyone experienced such an issue or done such a change before and if so any ideas why nothing turns on within the infotainment section?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Best,
Mike

if I were you - as others here have done to gain CarPlay - I'd get an all-new entertainment unit at a junkyard (scrapped car). You just have to buy the correct version (non-Bose or Bose).
Playing with a screen replacement and electronics is VERY dicey, especially since (although can't say in this case) the screen could be "paired with" or "encoded to" the overall unit. Sounds kooky and unlikely, but it could be the case.

Hey - thanks for the feedback. I had the same thoughts because there is an chip on the back of the screen but i assumed that controlled the "digitizing" touch from your finger. I have the Bose version, so seems i have to go down that route. I called a Nissan dealership shop and they said that usually you have to reprogram and that the parts are linked to that specific model. But even putting back the old cracked screen on it for a test - still same issue so it makes me wonder.

Hopefully - i will not have to face the same issue if i get one from the junkyard / eBay.

Best,
Mike

As Lindros says, better to get a whole replacement head unit from salvage. Sorry the more ambitious fix you tried would not work. How did you manage to crack the glass?
