Belt keeps shredding

Hi, so I’m working on a 2010 maxima, someone before me replaced an alternator and I don’t think they done it right, it seems like it’s crooked or something. The belt keeps shredding and before the alternator was replaced, it didn’t do it! Help!!! Is there some kind of sleeve or something that they would have dropped or didn’t put back on? All the other pulleys, compressor and power steering pulleys all turn with no problem

Well it appears you know the problem.. a misaligned pulley will shred belts quickly. I don't know how your replacement was done but I guess it is possible that one side was put on the wrong side of the mount. If the alternator was done at a shop, take it back. If you inherited it, take it to a reputable shop.

Okay thanks, I work in a shop by the way I know this person and She just isn’t in a position to take it to a shop or even where I work..I’m doing it on the side and I think I figured it out. I got the alternator off and it would hardly turn from the belt shreds being stuck behind it. I’m gonna replace that and the 2 idler pulleys and see what’s happens. I got the other shreds of belt off the PS pulley and from behind the crank and compressor. Thanks again!

I had this issue with my 2010 about 4 months ago. Unfortunately, I had to have the upper idler pulley and the tensioner assembly replaced to the tune of $525 dollars. That didn't include the 2 belts that I had replaced on my own thinking they were bad.

OE belt?

I also ran into this after replacing my alternator as well as the tensioner and idler pulleys. Finally went directly to Nissan for a belt and that did the trick! Since then I've also done the power steering pump, ac compressor, and another alternator. This time around I used a Continental OE belt that I found on Amazon and that is also working!

2014 nissan maxima with v6 belt shredding

2014 nissan maxima belt shredding and walking towards engine. We replaced the alternator and tensioner. We also replaced sperpentine belt with a shorter one. It worked for a couple months, but it went off again? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
