This Sucks. 16-17 Maximas

As multiple auto blogs have pointed out recently, the 3G shutdown will affect dozens of vehicle models released anytime between 2010 and 2021. Some cars will lose the ability to update your location and traffic data while navigating. Others will become unable to connect with your smartphone, voice assistants or emergency call services.

I just learned that 2016 and 2017 maximas will be affected. Thought you'd like to know, but there's not much we can do about it.

Some auto manufacturers are offering technology hardware/software upgrades to fix this problem. Nissan has yet to announce any plans for this fix for it's 11 effected models.

Would this be an option for getting the remote start, etc., back?

No good.
Max distance between phone and vehicle is limited up to 70ft. It may vary from phone to phone.

Seriously, it will effect using your phone too? Smh
I've been trying to figure out what will no longer work. I figured the remote start and the car location find from the app.

Yes, from what I have read, mostly it is about the phone interface. I would think the remote start, etc. from the fob would be okay, just maybe not commands from your phone, phone calls, texts, Apple Car Play, Android Auto upgraded head units, and the rest of the good stuff. I swear, if Nissan does not do a work-around I am done with them...for good!!

(yep meant remote from phone not fob)
That totally bites! And after the crap my car put me through last summer/fall, I'm done too!

My friend has a top-of-the-line 2020 Avalon and it never had the key fob remote start. He has to pay extra for the service to car start from a phone. That sucks so I am very happy to have the FOB start for free. Incidentally, this after-the-sale charge for the capability to do these things is a bad omen for the future! Earlier BMW tried to charge for Apple/Android capabilities.
