Upgrade from 2016 S to 2020 SR

The time has come for me to look for a new vehicle. 2016 S is now at 148k and I’m getting ready for diminished returns time to start with repairs etc. Everything i see looks like the 2020 SR is solid. I plan on having this one another 5 yrs. I wanted to see what the marked differences were and looking at spec sheets, it’s hard to tell in real world what it means. Things I’m wondering about:

Suspension- is it same or stiffer on normal? I like switching to sport to pass or on ramp but not sure I was this with different cvt feel or the stiff suspension steering if it’s on all the time.

cruise control - wife has Kia suv and the “smart” cruise control drives me nuts. Too many auto corrections and warning dings for my seasoned ***. Is it same in 2020 max now? Not sure if this is something you can turn off or if it’s that bad on max vs Kia.

road noise - my current was a fleet car and had horrible road noise with crappy tires when I bought it. I’ve since been running continentals and seems to help but not sure if newer or non fleet have better sound damping from outside highway noise.

paint - is paint and clear coat still cheap on the newer ones? I remember being shocked at how thin and chippy the 2016 paint is. I do lots of highway miles so will undoubtedly run into rocks and random things at 80mph.

anything else you think is worth mentioning? Aftermarket upgrades worth doing for function or performance?

thanks!!

I went 2016 > 2019. 2019-22 are the same.

can’t speak to suspension…

paint is fine. I have tricoat red and it’s been good.

Nissan 360 / smart cruise is ****. It’s generations behind everything else. I keep it off. CMBS isn’t bad - saved my ***.

re: noise/tires - I came back because I want to replace my OE Goodyear with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4+ but there are no reviews. These are the best Goodyear I’ve had, which isn’t saying much.

finally - Navi updated but still trashy. You’ll gain Carplay and Android auto.

I like the upgraded headlights and taillights on my 2019. The cruise can be enabled with or without the smart feature. The radio was upgraded to do away with the removable memory card. Paint on my 2019 is far better than my earlier early build 2016.

This helps, thanks guys. I’m only waiting for prices to go down a little bit now since things are absolutely ridiculous out there right now. Looking at a 2019 SR with 15,000 miles for $37,000. Yes. $37,000.

I’d save the money and keep your car!! Still low miles and no matter what repair you need you will not be spending over 30k to do so! Invest your money instead

On the subject of road noise, my 2017 S seems to have gotten quieter after switching to Continental Pure Contact LS from the stock Continental Pro Contact Tx.

To give you a ballpark comparison I bought a 2019 SL 4 weeks ago with 18k miles for 32k from Carvana with a couple light scratches on the exterior.
