Road noise

My parents have a 06 Dodge Magnum with the HEMI (wow!) and I used the car for the last 3 days to help my girlfriends mother move. I got back in my 04 Max and the noise difference is quite amazing. I always thought that the Max was nice and quite but compared to the Magnum its not. The road noise as well as the engine is much louder. Is there a way to make it quiter?

Dynamat, thicker tires, smaller wheels.......wait, wtf, you HAVE the SL, which=nice and quiet. Do you have stock suspension? Maybe you have "broken your car in" and the Magnum still has low mileage?

Either way, different tires and dynamat should help out...A LOT

My condolences.

Really though, as far as the road noise goes with you Max, you will probably want to start by taking a good look at your tires.

When people ride in my SL, one of the first comments is always how quiet it is.

I'll second this. When my RSAs started to get worn, they got really loud (and ultimately replaced with Dunlop Sport 5000M's). I also had another set of tires that I wore out and towards the end they got really loud as well. I've heard others say that with the worn RSAs, they thought that they were continuously being followed by a dump truck since they were so loud.

When I first put my Dunlops on, everything was really quite again.

And I've driven a Magnum... it didn't have the hemi, but it was nice. My biggest complaint was the blind spots - they are terrible with that car. I don't remember how the road noise was though.

add a good layer of sound deadening under the carpet (i recommend Second Skin, Hushmat, or Cascade Audio) especially under the rear seat. it's amazing how much road noise goes into the cabin from back there.

tires also comes into play as well. my RSA's got about 36k on them, and they're much louder than before.

As for the tires the SL does not have the RSAs it came with Continental tires. However I have new Kumho's which is quiter then the Conti tires. So thats not it

Where is a good place to buy, Second Skin, Hushmat, or Cascade Audio?

As for the diggs on the Magnum...remember guys its a wagon

It has been a night and day difference after I did it in my car!

Wow, that looks like a big project. Did you do that just in the back seat, or in the whole car (including front seat and trunk)?

I just did it for the rear end. I have 6.5 sheets left and still plan on finishing the trunk and doing the doors/front floors maybe.

What you see in the pictures is no more than 20lbs!

I weighed two boxes of it and it weighed about 22lbs, and I didn't even use all 10 sheets. When I add the remaining 6.5 sheets, then it will be close to 30lbs.

I don't think that's bad at all considering the benefits of it and also considering that people's "systems" probably weigh more than that.
