Cracked Windshield, damned trucks

This has been a bad week.
Was behind a truck and a stone was kicked up into the windshield.
It hit in the lower passenger side corner. A horizontal crack has developed from the passenger side lower corner, it's about a foot
long now and growing about an inch a day. The windshield will have
to be replaced. I'm calling for prices today
Maybe the insurance company will cover it (250 deuctable) w/o
raising my rates. I plan to check the dealer as well as the
better auto body shops in the area. Sigh.

Was it a semi truck or just a pickup? If it was a semi, you should have gotten the company info from the cab and called and complained. They are all supposed to have mudflaps on the back to prevent that. I don't know if they would have paid for a new windshield, but it couldn't hurt to try.

I have come to appreciate full glass coverage very much. Look into it when you renew your policy. Doesn't cost much to add on.

Mudflaps don't help with rocks >>

At least here in New England they don't...there's just too much debris on the roads. It takes till May in some parts of Connecticut before the sand and stones are cleaned away.

Dop you have glass coverage? I think even basic comprehensive insurance takes care of it for you and wont raise your insurance any.

The winsdhield in my 91 Escort cracked the same way, cost me $170 installed for a new one.

My Maxima windshield has so many fine chips on it, I envy my Escort's windshield

I agree most insurance companies now by law are covering windshields regardless of whether you have full glass coverage or not. Check with your insurance company first.

that's sorta the same thing that happened in my max but to a slightly bigger extent, back in 97, couple weeks after we bought it and my dad was drivin home, and a small pipe on the road was kicked up by a truck and went straight through the passenger side of the windshield, leaving a huge hole through the windshield plus the entire right side of it cracked...well, luckily, after paying the 250 deductible, our rates didn't go up any, plus we got a brand new nissan brand windshield instead of generic brand...the main point in my telling that was that i don't think your rates will go up...(plus i sometimes have a tendency to ramble )
