The 6th Gen Maxima can either have Halogen (HIR2) or HID (D2S) headlights. Both are readily available at a large salvage yard or on Ebay. Which projector gives the best result if installing LED bulbs? Or alternatively, does simply installing an HID assembly remove most of the benefit of LED headlights? The factory Halogen lights just don't do the job even after properly sanding and restoring the headlamps.

 

The factory halogen projectors with new 9012 LED bulbs work very well. I cut down the factory seal caps at the housing and used aftermarket rubber caps with a thick zip tie to install the caps. The beam pattern is near perfect and any gain from different projectors in my opinion would be nominal. I used the HIKARI 2023 Future 30000LM 9012 HIR2 LED bulbs and they are great.
