Folks,
Did a search and didn't find any information related to my problem, so forgive me if it's somewhere on the forum and discussed.
I have a unique issue, may or not be, but the top edge of my front windshield glass as it meets the seal has several bubbles/separation of the glass. Not an issue on the outside, but looks like the separation of the safety glass. My Maxima Platinum only has 52+K of mileage, so low, and the original factory windshield was replaced a few years back with the exact same issue. I discussed this with the dealership I have always used for service, and unfortunately they are not able to do anything about it based on it being out of warranty, but recommended to call Nissan Consumer Affairs. Not to hip on Nissan Consumer Affairs as I've dealt with them before and find them more of a "No, we can't help you" service. Explained the issue and provided photos that this is the second windshield with the same defects occurring at the top edge. Of course, they stated, "Sorry Nissan can't help you with this".
So, wondering if anyone has dealt with this issue. It's clearly a defect. I plan on talking to another Supervisor with Nissan above the Regional Specialist to see if they can do a goodwill since it's clearly a manufacturer defect problem. Two windshields with the same problem over the span of 5-years, definitely a Nissan problem. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how did you deal with it? Thanks!
Could be the glazing rubber on top is failing and letting in moisture and it is not the glass at fault. I doubt Nissan is going to be of any help unless you want to let them replace it on your dime. I would contact your insurance company and find out what they will do. They might treat it like cracked class if you have that coverage. Bottom line you need to get that fixed as it will only get worse whether it's on your dime or theirs. If you plan on replacing it go to a professional glass company and not rely on Nissan's tech's experience to do the job correctly.
Good luck Army.
Thanks Richard/Robtroxel. I didn't respond sooner since I knew we were going to have a heavy rainstorm, and waited for that to occur. I inspected the areas in question, with a magnifying glass, and didn't see any water intrusion. My car was on the driveway taking the full force of the rain. Also closely inspected the seal, and it seems pretty well intact. I've always used 303 UV protectant on all my seals on my car. Looked back at my paperwork from Nissan, and Nissan replaced the factory windshield for free in late 2018 for the exact same issue. Now I suppose it could be whatever seal/glue they use underneath is prematurely failing, but haven't had a windshield glass company look at it. Unfortunately my deductible is 1K on my insurance and they cover windshield repair or total replacement, so if the windshield is replaced, then I'll end up paying for it, or most of the bill. I know the windshield, OEM, is about 700 bucks, but not sure about labor for install and then recalibration of the safety equipment/sensors installed behind the rearview mirror. Now my insurance does cover repairs for free, so will get it evaluated to see if it can be repaired. It appears from the Nissan parts list, the seal at the top is a separate part. I suppose that it could be failing, but I would assume I would see moisture in this areas under the glass. More rain storms this week, so I'll see what happens.
Now in regard to Nissan replacing the windshield. I'm pretty sure my dealership would do it under a "Goodwill", but if I'm correct, it will only come with a 1-year warranty. This occurred outside that 1-year window. Now Safelite, for instance, that my insurance company uses, has a lifetime warranty. I've dealt with Safelite on other cars for chips/cracks which they did a great job, but not sure about whole windshield replacement (if it comes down to that), and if they do OEM windshields (if I go that route if it's not a defective windshield). I'll have to research that more. It definitely needs to be repaired. Last thing I want is a leak, if it is a seal problem, or lack of integrity/safety issue of the upper windshield windscreen.
Thanks for the responses. Love my Maxima Platinum, but these weird issues are just frustrating.
