2016 Nissan Maxima Transmission Filter
2016 Nissan Maxima Transmission Filter
Hello,
I am trying to find out at how many miles I should replace my 2016 Nissan Maxima Transmission Filter and/or do CVT fluid drain and fills. I would also like to know the specifications at which to put the trans pan back on.
I have the factory service manual; neither the transmission nor maintenance sections contain this information. I have attached them here.
Can anyone assist?

Here is my 50 cents. At 40,000 miles I went to the dealer (service advisor) just to see how bad they were gonna stick it to me for a CVT service. They wanted $260 for a drain and refill. What a joke as a drain is about 3 quarts when you pull the plug...so 3 quarts NS 3 for 260 bucks. Idiots. I then when to the parts dept. and asked their opinion on replacing the 2 CVT filters. (one in the pan and one on the side) The parts guy said they NEVER replace them and actually looked up when the last tech came requesting them and he said it was ZERO times. (what a joke)
I ended up buying a vacuum pump and sucked out the fluid myself and it was black as ink at 40K. Dumped in 3 quarts sucked it out again a week later and repeated resulting in a much cleaner fluid in there. I suck it out every 10K or so which might be overkill but keeping the fluid clean in these CVTs is the key. I have decided not to bother with the filters since the idiot dealers don't bother so I guess I will be an idiot too. Suck it out on a regular basis and you should be fine. Opinions are like you know what everybody has one but that's mine. Have great day.

I had a similar experience to Wisenheimer16, the dealer said there are no filters. When I told them there are two, they said, we'll they don't get serviced...they lost my business and did it myself. Note that the new strainer is different than the old one. Below is a good thread with a tutorial. My reply concerning the new strainer fitment is also included.
"The two bolts the 31728-29X0D uses, one is the bolt that mounts the sensor bracket, the other was part of the CVT control valve. Neither of these were used for the original 31728-29X0A mounting."
Torque values: Drain bolt 25 ft-lbs, overflow drain bolt 89 in-lbs, strainer 70 in-lbs, oil pan bolts 70 in-lbs.
