Seat Cover Installation - Lower Fabric Seat Trim Removal
Seat Cover Installation - Lower Fabric Seat Trim Removal
Sorry if this has already been mentioned in the threads, but I couldn't find any information. I bought some new seat covers for my 2016 Maxima. Mainly for the driver's side since the seat leather is cracking. The problem I'm encountering is how to remove the lower seat "fabric" trim on the back bottom of the driver's side seat, and eventually do the same for the passenger's side seat. I didn't realize, like most cars, it's not a velcro strip whereby you just separate it, or easy access hooks - bad assumption on my part. Since the seats are climate-controlled, the lower fabric trim (below the back of the seat pocket) goes underneath the seat and connects via a J-Hook close to the front bottom of the seat. To get an idea of what I'm talking about, go to this Nissan Technical Bulletin, pages 4 and 5, and look at the photos (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...19189-9999.pdf). I don't have the issue in the bulletin, just using the pictures as a reference, and it has good photos of the underside of the seats and the specific J-hooks I need to remove to pull back this fabric trim. My seat covers have the seat portion that has a separate installation from the back portion, whereby straps go through where they meet, and of course, I need to pull them through to the other side to appropriately secure. I don't see an easy way to remove the J-Hook for the driver's side (reference the TB for the picture) and then replace it without removing the seat bolts to move the seat up for better access, which I'd rather not do. The passenger side may be easier since the fabric doesn't go under seat components like on the driver's side. Any thoughts on this, or does anyone have any experience in dealing with this? Appreciate any information - Thanks.
