Disappointed in Legroom - Not Enough for a Car Seat

Bought an 8th gen platinum in April and have been loving the car. Just had a baby and need to have an infant carseat in the back. I'm not especially tall, but if I keep my seat in the position I like it, the seat barely squeezes in. When I turn the car off and the seat moves back a little automatically, it hits the car seat.

I know I can probably disable that function, and I've also moved the seat to the passenger side, but having it behind the drivers seat it preferable and I'd still like the extra room to get in and out. My wife's 2016 Altima doesn't have this issue. It fits comfortable with the seat almost all the way back. My 96 Maxima had car seats in it as well. I still like the car, but this is really disappointing for a car in this class.

Back seat space is tight. That is one of the major complaints Maxima has. Car looks big on the out side but tight on the inside. Extremely comfortable though.

A smaller car seat maybe.

Shouldn't a rear facing infant seat be installed in the middle of the rear seat?

safest place yeah, but the middle seat is kind of raised so mine didnt sit flat and there are no center latches aswell.

no latch in the center, but you can use the seat belt system

yeah, youre right, but i remember it not sitting well i think its because i used one of those smart bases and the cloth seats the center is raised compared to the other 2 seats so it overhang alot, idk if its like that with the leather seats too

It probably is, but I implore you to use the center if you can make the infant seat stable. The center offers additional protection from side impacts

Maxima competes in the full size arena, but in reality it's not any bigger than an Altima. In fact, the Altima probably has more rear seat space.

I used a rear-facing seat (Graco) just fine with the Maxima. My kids are now in Brittax front-facing seats (boosters) with plenty of room.

They used to be roomier
I have a 6th gen with 2 rear facing car seats. Test drove a new maxima, and a murano. The 6th gen had more room for carseats than both.

That's comforting. So while your kids have ample room, they're dead if you get t-boned.

Perhaps
That's always a possibility, no matter what you're driving. Its difficult to find a sedan large enough for two tall adults and two large rear facing car seats. Leg room does seem to be disappearing in the sedans though.
