95 SE 5spd and 97 SE auto go at it!

Well, I posted earlier about having trouble leaving a 98 VTEC 5spd accord with only an intake, before 3rd gear, but tonight, I had to see if there is something wrong with my car. So I lined up with a friends '97 SE auto w/ intake. I have a 95 SE 5spd with intake and y pipe. Well, we raced up to about 100mph, and I only had a car length or a little bit more on him at that speed. Is that typical for auto vs 5spd, or should the gap be greater??? I think I would have continued to pull some over 100mph. I had a pretty decent launch too. Tell me what you think.

Yeah sprint, you might be right about the high end, it seems like I put the car length on him before 2nd gear was up. My car has 104k on it. Air filter is clean and tb is clean, so maybe the problem lies in the cat huh?

Maybe get another 5 speed owner to drive your car or go and test drive a 5 speed. You know your car better than anyone and I'm sure you would feel a difference(if there was one).

try replacing your fuel filter next. Then a tune up. You have some issues apparently.

I have new plugs, pop charger is clean, tb is clean, engine only has 43k on it, but the car has 104k. Its a long story on how I got a new engine. So what else could I change besides the fuel filter and gutting the cat? Thanks for the help.

Maybe it was just a fast auto... Hold the laughs, or I'll have to go 5 spd hunting...

why don't you clock yourself at 0-60? This will give you more idea if smthg is wrong. Your numbers should be 6.7-7.0 if above than look for help.

This is MUCH harder than most people think. try a track..Look at your 1/8 times and 1/4 times and that should give you a good idea of where you stand.

Your 60 foot times will tell you if your launch is good

The easiest thing for me to do is race hlh0501, he lives about 45mins away and has a 5spd. He also has a GTECH. They will give me an acurate idea if something is wrong or not. What happened to BriGuyMax?? What did he determined caused the power lose in his 97?

WEll, I havent got a chance to look at my cat yet. But i've got maybe another possiblity?? My 95's muffler is really rusty and being lowered, it has been scraped some. Could a leak in the muffler cause that much power loss? If any at all? thanks, Steve

actually...I haven't really figured that out completely....I'm suspecting the knock sensor...as is VeeTec...becuase he has a simliar problem that I do....loss of power....and no CELs.
my car is quicker since I've done 100 fricken things to it...but not back completely...

ya knock sensor is big, BUT if you run the CEL light code's, using the screw you will get a 3,4 which is knock sensor. it's about 150 to buy a new one and worth it all.
