2008 Maxima Transmission Fluid

All along I was thinking my 2008 Max had a CVT transmission. Since I bought my car new, the dealer has
performed five transmission fluid changes. All invoices I got were written as though the fluid used was
type N2 which is a CVT fluid. However, investigation of my VIN number, shows my trans as a RE5F22A
which is a five-speed automatic and not CVT. So, I have to assume the paperwork they gave me is generic
because if wrong fluid was used my trans would have failed right away. I'm going back to the dealer
for an explanation. I have to believe they used the OEM Nissan Matic S fluid. I have 121,000 miles on
this original transmission. Also causing confusion, is by a class action suit Nissan extended the 100,000-mile warrantee
on CVT trans and it also included the five speeds as well. I've never added any fluid myself as my glove box manual calls out
the N2 fluid.

I've been confused on a higher level before. AI has been a lot of help on this and I've had one other dealer (not mine)
to correct themselves and say yes it's a five speed.

Well, I drove by my dealer and ask them to verify the transmission in my car and I'm still not sure that I have. He got the VIN #
and put it in his puter and it said CVT. But, this car has a dip tick to ck level, and the shifter is laid out P R N G + -
which is supposed to indicate a five-speed automatic. I didn't show him that. But I did ask if he had it on the lift could they tell what it really was....yes!
I'm told in looking up the VIN it gave him fluid types and not transmission types.

So be it.
No body in here with a 2008 Max knows the answer?

its pretty easy to tell the difference between a cvt and conventional automatic. one of them shifts.

This one I can tell when it shifts as it goes through the diff shifts by looking at the rpm's and even when it goes to OD.
But these don't feel like normal auto transmission do.
CVT's also give suddle shifts.

no...they dont. in normal automatic mode and 3/4 or so throttle itll run up to 6kish and just sit there. some of the more sporty tuned ones will mimic a shift or you can paddle "shift" them.

also having a dipstick is definitely NOT an indicator of being a cvt or not. early nissan CVTs have a dipstick. the best part of having a dipstick is it lists the required fluid right on it.
