Has anyone changed their trans fluid? Is there a filter that needs to be changed? Is there just one drain plug? How many quarts of fluid did you need?

Thanks

Don't forget that our A/T's require a special fluid - would recommend checking with the dealer for more information...

I just read that in my manual. It needs nissan matic-k fluid. Are we stuck on using that type or does any synthetic brands such as Mobil 1 meet or exceed nissans fluid?

we're stuck using it and the giant bill that accompanies it.

you could be our guinea and let us know how it turns out. of course your warranty goes down the drain with the fluid if swapping for another.

Nissan seems very serious about using this exact fluid for the 6th gen 5 speed tranny. I would not risk voiding the warranty for a few bucks. Remember, the power train warranty is a FIVE year one, and it would be unwise to waste it.

If you are tempted, give your dealer's service deptartment a jingle and ask for the driveout price on a replacement OEM 6th gen 5 speed tranny. That should convince you.

Those driving 6th gen SLs built before Feb 6th, 2004 (i.e., the 4 speed trannys) are free to use non-Nissan fluids.

Yeah I definitely will go with the Nissan Fluid. Has anyone had their fluid changed at the dealer? How much did it cost?

isn't there something stated in the Magnusson-Moss Act about this? something about manufacturers cannot mandate their specific oil unless they are going to give it for free. It is for the protection of the consumer. This was discussed before in the 5th gen forum but I could not do a search anymore...can anyone with the capability, do a search on this topic?
