Cylinder 4 misfire.
Cylinder 4 misfire.
Hi guys. I need some help. Couple weeks ago my Service Engine Soon light came up. When it did I have notice that I lost power and that the engine was running rough. After couple miles everything came back to normal. Except for the light.
Now I have the same symptoms from time to time.
My friend and I hoked it up to a computer and it came back with the error code saying that a misfire was detected on 4th cyliner.
I have changed the spark plugs and checked the coils and they were OK (I have 62,000 miles on the car). We have reset the ECU but the light came back after 20 miles or so with the same error code.
My question is what can be the problem? I have heard that this might be a fuel injector.
Another question is which one is cylinder #4.
Thanks.

No, we didn't check that.
I don't think that the problem is of electric nature. I'm getting those misfires from time to time. It happens for about 30 sec or so during every other day on my way to work (25 miles).
BTW, I have 99 Max SE 5spd.

I had the same problem with the 2 cylinder, but the coil was bad so I went to Kragen and got one for 80 bucks, the 4th cylinder is in the middle, close to the front window.
Re: Re: Cylinder 4 misfire.
cylinder 4 is the middle cylinder in front of the radiator.

So which one is it? I didn't have time to take care of this problem yet. There is a big difference if the 4th cylinder is the one in frmnt or in the back as far as the replacement goes.
Can someone confirm either one. Thanks.

Swap the coil with one of the other ones. After it skips again, check with the scanner to see if it's registering a skip in a different cylinder. If it is, then you've isolated a coil problem. If not, you probably have a bad/dirty injector. You can also try that with the plugs...
