Looking for Headers, Cat, and Exhaust...

I've been told over and over again that no one makes a header for a 94 GXE, is this true?

Also, I'd like to complete the system with a performace cat and exhaust system. I'm not sure what's available for my car besides the GReddy. Any suggestions?

Nope, no headers for the 94 GXE... or any other 3rd Gen for that matter.

How does the max do with just intake and exhaust? Seems to me like if you open up intake and exhaust you should open up the middle too(heads, cat) to get the best performance.

Yup...get the Y-pipe first I heard that is the best mod for the cash...I don't know about the Cat...but I don't think that will bring you any significant improvements....do your CAI, Y pipe and Catback, change your oil ...and you should be fine

Ok what's the difference in the types of welds? Warpspeed claims to "butt weld" and they say it is the best. What types of welds does the Cattman pipe have?

Poor mans headers

Port out your current exhaust headers. I know people who have done this and then dyno'ed. I've seen actual gains of 5HP (exactly) and 2 torque on a 4 cylinder Nissan. 5 is a realistic number to expect from headers, so perhaps porting the exhaust manifold would be best. You can buy porting kits with all the grinders you need.

Re: Poor mans headers

nope......been done("Don In Texas" and a few guys on z31.com), try 1-2hp gain if any....even the lightly modded Z31 turbo guys saw minimal gains from exhaust porting...IMO the simple fact is Nissan built these cars with performance in mind, so the mainfolds are pretty much top notch. as for the heads "Nismo87" just found a good article showing a 21 hp gain on the N/a VG with ported heads and Motorsport 270 cams...there is hope in the heads, but I'd leave the manifolds alone! for exhaust all you'll need is the y-pipe!

No, warpspeed does not Butt Weld, they claim that the competitors butt weld, and this type of weld is weak, warpspeed is cheaper also, you can get the mandrel bent aluminised pipe. their pipes have a 4 year warranty also, so you can't go wrong

Right, that's what I meant, warpspeed said the other pipes have butt welds.

Sounds like a good deal to me with a 4-year warranty.

Are there any downsides to getting aluminum versus stainless steel?

I like to put quality parts on my car.

Shouldn't you phrase it 'what's the downside of getting stainless'? Stainless will last a fair bit longer than aluminized, but not forever since SS does rust (apparently) and gets brittle over time. The guys at WSP say aluminized is just fine for most applications and should last about 7 years give or take.

Your exhaust depends on how "hardcore" you want your exhaust to be. If you want to go 100%, then you get a full SS system, mandrel bent piping, RT cat, remove or get a high flow resonator, and get a nice SS muffler. (Or get a cat-back) Of course this will be very costly.
If you want to go reasonably priced with a goal of improving HP, I think the best way would be to do something similar but in aluminized piping (and maybe just regular bending) with the STOCK cat. Then use a stock or 2K muffler if you like it quiet. I say stock cat because I've heard the gains from replacing it are minimal and I imagine it'd be expensive.

Use the search engine - very handy tool.

I think a y-pipe and a cat-back will suit my needs just fine. I don't want a full-race set-up, I'm looking for overall performance gains for everyday driving.

How do you like the 2k muffler?

Well I don't have the 2k muffler (or any exhaust mods) but the guys that do (like Jeff and Chris(?)) like it a lot. They've got some exhaust mods and no resonator and say it's still as quiet as stock. It should be a good flowing muffler because of its design.

if you desperatley want headers, you could get some for the RWD vg here http://www.vg30.com/alt/510vg30parts_alt.html

but it would require a custom y pipe to be made.

Not quiet as stock. There's no way I can really get back that quiet. But about as quiet as a totally aftermarket exhaust systemm is going to get. You will see in April RIGHT!?!?!

If you want headers get Z31 headers and modify them to fit. Or just copy the tubing length and reweld your own set.

Hmm, I'm sure I read someone saying that... oh well, noted for future reference.
