Weirdest thing ever happened????

So I got out of work today and walked to my car. I unlocked it, open the door and got in. When I shut the door I heard a huge crash. My whole back, rear window just completely shattered. All the way around. Weirdest thing I've ever encountered with a maxima. Anyone ever heard of this before?

When glass heats up and cools down it expands and contracts. So if you get presuure on it in the wrong place at the wrong time it will shatter. I work at a car dealership and this happens several times a summer it really sucks. Ohh yeah by the way check with your insurance they will probably pay for it. thats a little bit cheaper than paying out of pocket.

Well, i calmed down after a couple seconds after the glass shattered. I had a glass company come to my office today and they fixed it right there in the parking lot. And of course insurance payed for it in full without having to pay a deductable. Very cool. It must have the pressure + it was cold as **** yesterday.

if you slammed the door, the the pressure probably blew out the window. there's this little air release thingy in the trunk that helps release the air from the cabin. maybe you should get yours checked out. i had mine replaced a while ago.

OK, my insurance company is called Encompass insurance. Formally known as CNA Insurance.
What I want to know is where is the pressure release for the cabin pressure in the trunk. Better to check that out than keep a window open.

i remember when i was a kid... I was playing around with 2 magnets in the back seat of my mothers parked car... The back window wasn't to big, similar to a lesabre. Anywho i was playing with them back there, making them repel....... don't ask.....

anyways... one time i made it repel, one piece flew out of my hand and tapped the window. It didn't even hit the window hard whatsoever.
The whole back glass just shattered in front of me. Needless to say i was sh!tting bricks!!!!!!!!!!

That must have been freaky.....
Is there a problem here, the number of windshields that get cracked and now rear windows too?

This wasnt a car window but kinda the same idea. I took electronics in high school and I was sitting across from my friend. I went to throw a 555 chip at him joking around. Now those who hae not seen one a 555 chip is maybe the size of a dime or so. My friend moved his head just in time to miss him and the chip hit this window in shop thats about 5 feet tall and 6 feet across or so. So he kinda laughed that I missed and he turned and looked at the window. About three seconds later we hear the glass completly shatter. The window totally fell apart from it. No idea why unless it hit a very sinsitive area and sent ther shock throughout the glass.

We got off of it though because the teacher mumbled something about baromic pressure and never thought we hit it with something.

Aahhhhh! So that's the sound I keep hearing. If I slam my doors in a quiet place, with all the windows rolled up, I hear something flap in the trunk. That's what I though it was for. Hmmm, interesting.

Guys, try this;

in a quiet area, making sure you've rolled all your windows up, and sunroof is closed, close or somewhat slam the driver's side rear door. You should hear a faint flapping coming from under the trunk. That flap seems to be located near the driver's side rear door, underneath the trunk. Glad to know mines working

Don't slam too hard though! It could cost you new rear glass and a big 'stinkin mess! That was the whole point here, right?

It was crazy. I mean this tiny little thing took out that much surface area. It was the look on my friends face though that made it classic.

did it involve tempered ceramics?? Like on a spark plug?? That stuff resonates a specific way and can shatter glass like a brick...it's really weird, we used to fool around with it in physics class.

Yeah sometimes I end up breaking glass if I throw stuff at it, I don't know why though.

exactly... it's like when it hits, it hits the most vulnerable spot of the glass or sumthin. Some kinda physics going on i tell ya.
