Help! Oil leak...

Help! I am leaking oil! Well, my Max is. The problem is that I can' tell where it is coming from. I changed the oil pressure sending unit about 6 months ago and it doesnt seem to be coming from there. The pan is completely damp. I suspected the drain plug but the pan is wet all the way up on all sides. Its not leaking bad, just speckling the floor, but man, what an annoyance. Any ideas where this could be leaking? Could it be the pan gasket?

Thanks!

Jason

Most likely, judging from the way you described the leak.

BTW, how much was the oil sending unit to replace labor and all? is it hard to replace?

I dont remember the price of the sending unit, but it was cheap. The install took me about 20 minutes but could certainly be done quicker. All you need is some teflon tape and channel locks.

As for the leak, I have never heard of a pan gasket just suddenly leaking? I guess it could happen.

BTW, I only have have 70k miles and its a 95.

Why the teflon tape?

I noticed channel locks when changing the oil pressure sender unit. I tried to use channel locks, vice grips, open ended socket, etc but nothing worked well. I really do not think you were able to tighten down the OPS properly. I had to go out and buy a 1 1/16" DEEP WELL 6 point socket to properly snug it in.

My OPS was $6 for an aftermarket one. Do not use the OEM nissan one. Clean the entire pan with degreaser/brake cleaner and then check the OPS again to pin point the leak.

Teflon tape (or pipe tape) to seal the threads.

So, dont use the OEM unit!? Damn, Im pretty sure thats the one I went with. I definately tightened it down with channel locks. I cleaned everything really well with brake cleaner and then checked a day later but everything was damp, not wet, but I still couldn't pinpoint where the leak was coming from. Maybe I ought to take a look at the seder. BTW, the OEM sender came out easily with channel locks. Do you think that it needs to be tighter than that?
