Heres a pic of the monster foam filter of my CAI that was taken directly in front of the fog light hole. as you can see, it will deffinately get wet while driving in the rain. Im not worried about hydrolocking because it will take a pretty deep puddle to completely submerge it. What I am worried about is how will the Foam stand up to weather? will it deteriorate over time due to it being exposed to the elements?
I heard this foam is very good for "more flow" but Im just a lil paranoid about how it will last over time exposed to weather.

 

I think a K&N would last longer than an Foam element..

But, I just ordered 1... right now I have the JWT pop... how is the sound with that foam filter?? I want back that deep loud sound it makes. If the foam just quiets it I might just go and buy a K&N.. Let me know!

 

Haha. Foam w/ no oil? yeah foam might flow better but then again NO filter will flow better. You see foam might flow better because it doesn't filter for crap. I mean it's really bad. And you just put it into one of the most dirty enviroments you could have.

Now at least the Amsoil foams have oil to help trap dirt but I don't even see this on your filter. Ask the manufacturer for micron filtering information. Listen to their reply and then compare what it filters vs an oil K&N.

 

Would it hurt to buy some spray on Oil that comes with the K&N Recharge kit and lightly spray on it ?? or is that bad for the foam?

 

You could try but it's probably asking for trouble. If the element is not designed to "hold" the oil, you would risk having the oil being sucked down by the engine or damaging the maf's element.

That sounds horrible.. and makes sense. I'll try the foam filter and If I dont like it I can always go and get a K&N.

 

maximumsport- the k&n is louder than the foam. it had more of the waaa noise to it at WOT. the foam sounded a little more muffled.
I always though the pop charger's velocity stack was bigger than 3"? the foam filter I got is a 3" inlet so maybe it wont fit the velicity stack.

anyways in the booklet that came with the filter, it said it was pre-treated with a special tackifier. there are instructions to re-spray the oil on it so yes, it does require the oil treatment

 

i can't believe place racing changed the filter element...but anyways, still thinking of picking one up...if i remeber correctly the JWT filter can be placed at the end of the CAI and fit in the fender? b/c i remember cheston putting his stillen intake filter on the end of his CAI...

 

K&N makes lots of filters that fit on the cai. Just measure the pope you want to put it on (3") and go to your autoparts store to order.

I got my K&N for $35 for my CAI.

IMHO I would NOT trust my engine to a foam filter sitting in the fender well.

 

anyone think if a HKS superflow filter would be good on the end of a CAI??

 

Is that the big Mushroom filter? it "might" have problems hitting the wheel well.its also a foam filter so your probably going to get the same responce as the monster.
