engine oil leak stopper

I have an oil leak from the upper oil pan. To get this fixed it a lot of work because of the location of the upper pan, its gonna be expensive. I was gonna try one of those oil leak stoppers you just poar into the crankcase but im not sure its gonna be safe for my engine?

You're just delaying the inevitable.

The stuff that stops the leak may stop oil from other areas too.

I agree - something designed to "plug" an oil leak could also "plug" any of several very tiny pathways the oil must travel through in order to ensure that ALL parts of your engine are properly lubricated. Personally, I wouldn't do it to my own car.

Like Steve said, it is inevitable. A gasket replacement sure is a lot less expensive than rebuilding/replacing the engine due to oil starvation. Those leak stoppers can do way more damage than good. If you like your car as much as I like mine you will keep checking the oil and topping it off when its low and repair it properly when you can.

Best Wishes...

Sorry about that iwannabmw, I got you confused with Steve Marsh because you are both Amsoil dealers (your sig).

I agree with the other members, make the proper repairs, avoid that patch it in a can/bottle stuff! You certainly don't want to screw up your VQ! Best Wishes! 96se auto 164,665 miles (feather like gas pedal acceleration effect!) all Amsoil lubricants/filtration, Redline "Water Wetter" strict maintenance regimen that would drive a dealer insane!
