The heater core is actually surrounded by some sort of gray foam I think. Your car is getting old and the foam is falling apart and being blown out of the ducts. No big deal. One day it will all break apart and you will get a snowstorm inside your car. Just watch out for that!

A 98 Old? I don't think so. There is a bug, yes a bug that can live in HVAC ducts. It's more common in homes. There a small white tiny sort of whatchamacallit. I had a buddy in the business of cleaning HVAC vents, can't remember the name of bug. He used to clean them out of houses a lot. I'm sure cars could be prone to it as well. You need to get your condensor cleaned big time. I'd drop the blower motor and really take a good look at those coils. Do you run your A/C or AUTO a lot?

You do run your A/C a lot. So chances are that this bug has decided to nest in your wet condensor coils. You need a really good cleaning. Consider the dealer for this one or a shop that specializes in automotive A/C service. They should know how to really get at the coils as well as what cleaning chemical will kill your infestation.

Bug?? I dunno about that.

I know that mold and mildew can grow on the condensor coils, but that's not exactly a bug. Mold and mildew will not shoot out like styrofoam.

Yea, it's actually kind of funny. But yes a bug, I can't remember the name of it. Very common in homes with forced Hot Air Heat. Happens when you don't keep your system clean or run it without the filters in place. They "nest" in the dust inside the ducts. Then they come out initially when the system fan comes on. Very annoying and can be a PITA to get rid of. Cars are also prone to this, but it's not that common.
