Clear indicator fell off on highway, hood almost flew off too, what the......!?
We were going skiing this past Sunday around albany and first on the way there I heard something come loose in the front of my car (was going about 100 mph) and it started dragging so I pulled over on the shoulder right away. I thought it might be my Trenz valance which I had secured on with zip ties only but it was the side part of my driver side clear bumper lens! And it was nowhere to be found on the road, I probably ran over it or something...so now I just have a hole there. I was really ****ed because the place that I bought it from were the ones who installed it also and that means they didn't put it on securely, I'm gonna go there and ask for a free replacement, but any tips on how to make sure it doesn't happen to the replacement piece and the rest of my clear indicators again? (my friend with a 330i who I raced all the way to albany was laughing his *** of saying my maxima is falling apart).
Another thing, me and my friend were racing on the NY thruway (I think that's what it is) while on the way to albany since it's so nice and smooth and pretty straight (evening time, not much traffic). And I was going around 120 mph when my hood suddenly started vibrating violently and it looked like it was about to open and fly off so I slowed down right away, now what the hell is that all about!? I know my car was going at high speeds for a long time but that doesn't mean it has to start falling apart. I have the trenz grille which is pretty open and lets a lot of air under the hood, so could it be because of that? What can I do to make sure my hood doesn't fly off on the highway?
And last but not least, I had a nice clean strip of road in front of me so I decided to top out my car and try to touch 140, but it wouldn't go above 120-121 mph! I tried with both OD on and off. My car is about 4000 miles overdue for 70k service and my service engine light came on during this trip too (I made an appoitment with Nissan as soon as I got back so my car can get the much-needed tune-up and servicing). I know the car was being stressed, but I was not beating on it or anything, just driving fast. So what could be the reason for it staying at 120? I have a '97 SE auto and I thought SE's didn't have speed limiters, I've gone above 120 easily before, so what gives?
Sorry for the long post but this kind of little stuff makes me p***ed because you take care of your car and what not and then it starts falling apart, so the know-it-alls please give your insights on the above, thanks.

When I installed my clear corners, I secured them. Sometime back, one of my bulbs blew, and when I was un-screwing it to get the bad bulb, I almost broke 'em becuase I forgot that I had secured them from the inside!
I put a friendly reminder in my manual so next time I won't mess them up. Use the instructions from Jeff K's MegaMax site for your replacement.

Also, for your 120 mph problem, I bet it's your feul filter. It needs to be changed every 30K miles. If you put in a 300zx feul filter, like I did, you can change it every 60K miles.

MrBlank - 120 is really not THAT fast.
dwapenyi - thanks for your help.
Anyone got anything to say about the hood problem?? I really wanna find a way to make it more secure, don't want it flying off on the highway like I said.

Maybe that's the problem, for SHO and slammed95, aerodynamics. You both have slight modifications to the hood area which could introduce different airflow underneath the hood, causing the turbulence and hence the shaky hoods. Maximas without foglights have that foglight area either completely covered(95-96es and 2Ks), or, in the case of the 97-99s, a little bar? or soemthing in that area to distrub the flow just enough. You guys probably need something to point the incoming airflow downward. That effect will 'suck' the hood down and keep it in place.
For SHO, your 'un-likely' mod could have a ram air effect on the CAI, that would be cool!
