I have some rather bad news about the stickys....

They are gone in their present form.

Never type the following from a command prompt while running Windows 2000 with the computer at an undisclosed location that currently has the dot org posts in the My Documents folder:

rd /s /q c:\winnt and hit return when you are really trying to delete a subdirectory........

I'm rather p i s s e d at the moment.

Saying I'm sorry doesn't cut it, but I am.

In the next few days, I'll start doing serious searching and seeing what all I can derive from the database........and make a plea to anyone out there who may have saved some of the info locally.

Check and see if google has the old URLs cached. They probably have something.. try doing it directly by: http://google.com/search?q=cache:theurltothepageyou wanttocheck.

Example: http://google.com/search?q=cache:forums.maxima.org will bring up their cached copy of the front page. It looks like it was snapped about 3 weeks ago.

Good luck!

It's ok...we won't kill you.

When are you stepping down from moderator and handing the title over to me?

Quite frankly, it is an action worth of relinguishing a leadership role here.

I've failed the community in a very bad way.

Damn, that was one of the best sources of info on here. But what's done, is done. The time and effort you put into it is greatly appreciated, and at least many people benefited from it while it was around.

Bill,
Was it just the maintenance sticky? Don't worry too much over it. I believe I have a hard copy I printed some time ago if you would like to retype it all up. I know for sure that I have the ECU Diagnostic Trouble Codes sticky but I'll have to check for others. Just let me know and I can probably fax it to you.

Bill, don't beat yourself up man. It could have happened to anyone. With the effort of all the great members here, we'll get something back together. And I have faith it will be equal if not better than it was.

I feel your pain. I was trying to clean out the old 1/4 mile thread by deleteing the OT posts. Well, I was about halfway through, but I forgot that when you delete a post, it takes you back to the beginning of the thread. So I read the first post, thought I was on the thrid page....thought that was re post, so i deleted it.

And the whole thread went away...

Hi Bill99GXE;

I saved the 4th Gen Maintenance Items Sticky to a Windows 2000 file on Jan 5, 2002. I have it locally on my desktop right now.

We can definately reconstruct it. I've contributed a few things to the FAQ thread here, I plan to put more things in as well. I have a FSM at my disposal as well, although if a CD-ROM verion is available it would be probably easier to transpose the data. Maybe we can start a thread that asks "FAQs" and we will all pitch in and try to answer them.

White96MaxSE,

If you don't mind, zip up the file and e-mail it to me as an attachment.

Thanks!

Sounds like it might be back up soon if there are more people who saved it like this.

Glad to see that all the info will keep on going. Especially lately where it seems we are getting more and more newbies.

Hey Bill, you're human...welcome to the club!

May I suggest that the FAQ's be put in a seperate section on the org? Even if the info is derrived from posts, I don't think it should be maintained in post form.

I can tell you the ECU diagnostic will go to Excel spreadsheet table form, or maybe Acrobat PDF form. They won't be in post form any longer.

As for the Maintenance items, I'm not sure yet.....

Maybe it's just me but I don't see the big deal about ECU codes on-line. To me, there is just absolutely NO excuse for not owning a Chilton's and/or Haynes.

no biggie

We'll move on, no big deal bill. Its actually a good bonding experience for org members to get together and draw upon info from difference sources, and rebuild the stick library. We should rename the stickies the bill99gxe honorary library for all your hard work. well that may not pass, but anyways, don't worry man.

Good point, but Daniel did an excellent job of approaches to almost every single DTC.........tough to let good, practical information go to waste.

As he, myself, and countless others have stated, getting an FSM and a Chilton or Haynes is a worthwhile investment.
