Pay Pal....Is it Safe?

Hey guys, have anyone of you used Pay Pal, and if so, how did it go?

Did you get charged for using it?

Thanks.

pay pal itself may be...

but there isnt really any protection with it. it's still on faith that the seller will fulfil the obligation.

btw, you cannot contest a credit card charge to paypal. that is considered a bank to bank transfer by most banks and you cannot contest those. I know someone who found out the hard way to the tune of $2700. At least someone went to jail for it. but paypal was no help, even to the local authorities who called for information about the tranaction. the seller was supposed to have a frozen account because of fraud, but paypal allowed the xfer anyway. nice...

anyway, this is OT and wont last long...

I agree that Paypal can be very dependant on the seller's credibility; but isn't that the case no matter how you send someone money?

As a medium for exhcange, I have had excellent results w/ Paypal (20+ perfect transactions) and found it very safe.

They also let you set up your account with one of your credit cards, and most credit card companies are very good about taking care of disputes for you. I would suggest using the credit card account for all transactions, and then let the card company fight the battle for you if something goes wrong.

BTW, its better than free. I believe when you sign up they still give you a $5 credit to your account.

This is not entirely true. For limited, average consumer use (which is most of us) it is free.

Direct Quote: "PayPal only charges Premier and Business accounts to receive payments... It is always FREE to:

Open an account
Send money
Add funds
Withdraw money to a bank account"

Been using PayPal for 6 months now. Very easy to use, I've even got their credit card so I can charge things or get cash against my account at any ATM.
